This started off hot with both guys swinging wildly at each other. Piper got hit and tangled in the ropes and it was like shooting ducks in a barrel. Paul is mauling Piper and Bruno separates them… to boos! Paul got poked in the eye and Piper gives him a double throat chop. Bruno keeps Piper form hitting Orndorff ion the corner and gets a punch in the face. Piper used his tape to keep Orndorff blind. Orndorff gets thrown out and Piper batters him on the table. Orndorff reverses an Irish Whip and applies a sleeper and the crowd goes nuts. Piper reaches the ropes and escapes outside. Paul follows him and Piper throws a drink in his face. Piper grabs a chair and it hits Bruno. Paul is still attacking and about to hit the piledriver when Orton come sin. Bruno revives and starts slugging it out with Orton. Piper and Orton bail and Orndorff & Bruno were about to go after them. I know 12 years ago, this was in the NO CIGAR but I think it deserves a SOLID NOMINATION.
July 7Jul 7 comment_6032273 Bruno Sammartino is the guest ref. Slower pace due to Bruno’s involvement and Piper having to interact with Bruno throughout. The finish has Orton interfering to set up a tag match. If I were watching in a vacuum, I’d maybe go solid but I’m watching it after the previous four matches and this feels like a more slowed down version of the previous matches in service of setting up the future tag match involving Bruno. I’ll go middle nom. So far I’d likely rank this either fourth or fifth in the feud (leaning ore towards fifth. The finishing sequence could be an extra for the feud, particularly if the tag match that this sets up makes the cut.
