Posted June 19Jun 19 comment_6031497 RODDY PIPER & DAVID SCHULTZ vs INVADERS (02/20/1984; WWF MSG; New York, NY; 00:15:45) - Piper slaps an Invader and a chase ensues with Piper running from Invader #1. Schultz tags in and #1 still going after Piper. IN the heel corner, Schultz swings and accidentally hits Roddy. Dr D tags Piper and they do a test of strength. Invader wins, slaps Piper several times and the Invaders square off on Piper erupting the crowd. They do great heel in peril teases and Piper cannot tag Schultz. The crowd is loving this. The heels get Invader #2 in their corner and destroy this guy. #2 in peril and the crowd tried to rally him. The feud between Piper and #1 really shines even in the near fall saves. Invader #1 gets the tag and takes his anger out on Piper. The Invaders do an assisted running senton for a pin but the ref is distracted and Schultz hits the Invader from behind and Piper rolls over and gets the pin. This was so much fun and may be the only chance of getting the Invaders on the set. Piper is a master and got the Invaders, who have been wrestling in silence, over. I am giving this a SOLID-STRONG nomination because of the effective story telling and the ability to get a crowd to care about a team they didn’t care about going in. Great stuff.
