Posted June 22Jun 22 comment_6031646 Roddy Piper vs. Rick Rude (MSG 9/30/89) - Rude cuts a promo on Piper before the match. Rude charges and Piper throws him out of the ring and the crowd is HOT. HE chases Heenan away and then covers Rude with the kilt and pounds away. He then takes off his T-shirt and chokes him with it. Awesome start! Rude picks up the belt and starts whipping Piper. Piper hits Rude with a dropkick… and they both see the blet on the ground and leap for it. Piper wins the race and whips him with the belt again. WOW! Just an insane start to this match. Piper kisses Rude on the forehead and whips him with the belt attached to the corner. Rude turns the tide with an atomic drop and eye rake and controls for several minutes. They actually exchange bear hugs and it wasn’t bad. IT was awkward seeing Piper apply a bear hug though. The Rude chin lock makes an appearance but only fior a minute. Piper fights out but Rude damages the back some more and tosses him out of the ring. Piper gets right back up and runs back in and tries to tackle him but Rude rakes the eyes and takes him down again. Another chin lock does not last long and the electric chair drop ends that experiment. At this point, both guys are busting ass with near falls and strike battles including a nasty back fist from Piper and Rude with a 2nd rope fist drop. Rude tries a Rude Awakening and Piper hits a trick knee to a big pop. I love that Piper makes a pin, Rude puts his leg on the ropes so Piper just jumps on the leg. He isn’t trying to work the leg… just punishing the leg for not ending the match. A running cross body sends both guys over the top rope. Rude is running away from the ring and Piper is chasing him. Double count out but Piper brings Rude back. HE brings in a chair and levels Rude. Piper knocks out Davis and then Rude hit Piper with a chair. This was wild. The crowd was not as excited for this as I was but it still deserves a STRONG NOMINATION. - Rick Rude & Bobby Heenan Interview after the match.
