So it felt a lot like a Crockett angle except all the guys got musical entrances so it had a WWF feel to it. The match starts off with a good sucker punch by Martel. They're fighting on the floor. Back in the ring Tito is on top and they're cutting a fast pace with some great pinfall attempts. A distraction leads to Martel getting heat working the back. This is smart work to set up his finisher. Of course with all the people on the outside a blind man could see it coming.
June 22Jun 22 comment_6031650 Rick Martel vs. Tito Santana (SNME 10/14/89) - Rick Martel Interview / Tito Santana Interview. - Tito is still pissed because Martel walked out on him at WrestleMania. Slick is outside with Akeem, Boss Man and the Honkytonk Man. The numbers are against Tito. Tito signals for the Red Rooster, Brutus Beefcake and Dusty Rhodes to come down to even things up. Martel strikes first but Tito responds with an atomic drop and axe bomber to send Martel out. Tito beats Martel up on the outside and even rolls in to break the count and come back to continue the punishment. Inside the ring, Tito picks it up inside the ring. Tito got a flying body press for a near fall and the crowd bit on that one. Martel desperately throws Tito into the corner buckle. He doesn’t stay in control long. This has been pretty back and forth and as I type that, McMahon says “This has been back and forth”. Tito hits the flying forearm. Slick distracts Tito and he stops the pin to go after Slick. There is a Mexican standoff with all the friends on the outside wanting to jump in. Santana went for a clothesline but missed and awkwardly stumbled outside. Inside the ring, it’s still back and forth. Tito wins a backslide battle for two. Martel chokes Tito and gets the Boston Crab but Tito reaches the ropes. Tito gets a pin attempt out of the crab for two. This has been great! Tito crotches Martel on the top rope. Tito going for the figure 4 but Slick interferes. Then Boss Man come sin for the DQ. Then all of the friends come in for the big brawl at the end. The match was a SOLID NOMINATION. This was a pretty smart way to set up the Survivor Series.
