Posted May 1, 200520 yr comment_1939016 Mine: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2) WCW/NWO Revenge (N64) Super Mario World (SNES) I liked Vice City more than 3 and I didn't get to play San Andreas enough to give it a fair comparison. I played Vice City for DAYS. Loved the music and all the gangster movie references. Love the voice appearances. I played Revenge more than any other AKI wrestling games. I guess I was just a WCW mark. It didn't have slowdown like No Mercy and I liked the roster more than Wrestlemania 2000. Virtual Pro Wrestling 1 & 2 had the whole language barrier thing. After awhile you get used to it but I still think it knocked the games down in my eyes. Super Mario World is one of the only games that I can never get bored with. I can throw it on at any time and just play. It's always fun. I love flying through levels just to beat them quickly. I love seeing how many times I can beat "Tubular" in a row before dying. Hell, I even tried speed running the game.
May 1, 200520 yr comment_1944780 All time, I'd have to say: Super Mario (NES) VPW2 (N64) Hardball (Atari XE) Hardball was the shit, by late 80s standards. I played Super Mario until I had the NES controller imprinted into my thumbs. I never got into the sequels, surprisingly enough, but the first game took a large chunk of my early years.
May 1, 200520 yr comment_1946992 Super Mario Bros 2 - I have fond memories of spending HOURS playing this game with all four playable characters. It was like an acid-induced hallucination compared to every other SMB game and I loved it being so different and all the neat things you could accomplish. Street Fighter II - Capcom made me a 2-D fighting game mark for the rest of my life. Regardless of what anyone says about the franchise, I'll faithfully buy/play every single game they release. Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 - The epitome of wrestling games. AKI's engine is perfected here. This game, to me, is flawless. Funny how all these games avoided the sophomore slump and are WAY better than their predecessors.
May 1, 200520 yr comment_1947281 Mega Man 2: The best one. Period. Fire Pro Wrestling D: The best wrestling game I've ever played. Super Mario Brothers 3: This was the one that came with my NES, so it got the most play of any of the SMB games.
May 2, 200520 yr comment_1948690 Virtua Pro Wrestling 2- I echo CJ's sentiments about the game. This is the best wrestling game I have ever played. The CAW is in-depth but not over-bearing. The gameplay is the typical AKI game engine with a few tweaks that the American games don't have. It has the Create a PPV I loved from Wrestlemania 2000 and the create a title from NWO vs. the World. There is none of the slowdown from No Mercy. Just an awesome game. Zelda: A Link to the Past- My favorite Zelda game of all-time. I had stopped playing video games for a few years and then my rommate bought a SNES. I played this thing for days. When I beat it, I still played it for months. Soul Blade- I know the Soul Caliber games are prettier and crisper but nothing changed the way I feel about video games more than this gem. I perfected it!!! Hours upon hours of playing and the sole reason I wanted a Playstation. The quest mode is something that sill hasn't been improved upon in the sequesl and I ejoyed the characters and cutscenes as well. To me, the perfect weapon-based fighter.
May 2, 200520 yr comment_1954912 The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - This has to be my all-time favourite. So simple, yet so brilliant. A perfect learning curve, colourful and grim when necessary, shitloads to do and secrets to find, and there are certain thing I love about the dialogue; don't ask why. Bought it in '94 and I'm still playing it now. The only disappointment about it is that I don't think Link was a lefty in it. The other two I can't be sure of. Maybe the original SFII, maybe one of the Monkey Islands... 2 or COMI, I don't know.
May 2, 200520 yr comment_1956591 The Legend of Zelda : Majora's Mask - a rather dark game in contrast to the rest of the series and the most challenging of them, a ton of sidequests and a good soundtrack. Skies of Arcadia : Legends - I lost count how many times I've replayed this one. Sonic Mega Collection - My #1 stop for mindless fun nowadays.
May 3, 200520 yr comment_1972653 You didn't find the first two Zeldas to be the most challenging? Heh, I preferred the happy and light Zeldas to Majora's Mask, which felt restricted to me. The Song of Double Time is brilliant, though. My second favourite of any Zelda song. I was just thinking about it today. Great game, but not my cup of quim.
May 3, 200520 yr Author comment_1973305 No one seems to give any props to Adventures of Link for the NES. That's a great game. It doesn't play like the other Zelda games as it doesn't have a lot of the RPG elements. Basically, it's a side-scrolling adventure game. I still like it a lot though. It's actually quite tough.
May 3, 200520 yr comment_1973478 Super Mario Bros. 3 for NES - My #1 game, easily. Tecmo Super Bowl for Sega Genesis - I'll NEVER tire of this game...even though it's the easiest thing in the world. Super Mario 64 for N64 - Addictive and replayable
May 3, 200520 yr comment_1974796 You didn't find the first two Zeldas to be the most challenging? Nope. Oh, they were challenging alright... as far as I can remember, but at least I didn't need a guide or any outside help to get through those two. With MM, I did.

He was actually left-handed in this game(all of them actually, If I remember correctly. A little nod to the games creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, a lefty), though they did use a sprite flip when Link was facing right. Nintendo was able to use a bit of creativity to cover for this time saver and said that Link would keep his shield pointed towards the evil of Death Mountain. I'm pretty sure this was mentioned in the manual for the game.
May 6, 200520 yr comment_2011055 GTA Vice City is #1 by a mile. I played it almost non-stop for two years. Just loved every single thing about it. San Andreas is a better game, obviously, but I haven't invested nearly as much time in it...yet. Number three? Hmm...Red Faction for the PS2. I loved the storyline and I must have replayed it all the way through a dozen times.

The problem is the topic asks for the three favorite games. There isn't alot of room to include good and enjoyable games... but games that wouldn't even be top twenty consideration.

I'm pretty sure this was mentioned in the manual for the game. Ah, good. I was trying to picture Link with sword drawn facing north, and I kept seeing it in the right hand. But yeah, I remember the shield thing. I had no idea it was to cover something like that up. Pretty clever. I actually didn't notice the lefty thing until Ocarina of Time. It became apparent to me suddenly because of how he'd have to step to the side to open certain doors. It struck me as being really cool. Glad they didn't Simpsons it and randomly change handedness when they felt like it.
May 7, 200520 yr comment_2024077 GTA: Vice City For the same reasons Ray said, really. Enormous and beautiful, about as close to perfect as a computer game has ever got. Elite Probably the Amiga version, cos I had to cheat to get anywhere on the C64 version (I could never dock). I lost a whole summer holiday to this game. Moria One of the Rogue-like topdown ripoffs, freeware, and this I still play now. Infinitely big, it seems.
May 16, 200520 yr comment_2149357 3) Super Metroid ~ The best Metroid game, difficult, lots to do, and very solid gameplay. 2) Chrono Trigger ~ Featured you saving not only the world, but several generations, had an easy style of gameplay, a good storyline, an awesome soundtrack and definitely some of the most memorable characters. 1) Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time ~ Great dungeons, good graphics, a great soundtrack, and awesome gameplay; as well as aging quite well when compared to today's game, this game is absolutely fantastic.
May 16, 200520 yr comment_2149962 Final Fantasy VI It's painfully difficult for me to take this over Chrono Trigger, but whenever I think about what I want in an RPG, I find myself coming back to this game. Almost all of the characters (okay, Umaro doesn't count) get great exposition through the game, the battle engine is intense (with summons that aren't so outrageously unbalanced), tons of customization through characters, a gazillion hidden items and side quests (especially when you hit the World of Ruin), and the overlying storyline is one of the best you'll see in RPGs. So many new school RPGs are trying to be Chrono Trigger or FFVII, but they should really focus on being the best game in the series that defines the genre for many consumers. Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past Most of the reasons I would mention have already been echoed. I think the real debate is which Zelda game is better: Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time? X-Com: Terror From The Deep Greatest turn-based squad strategy game of all time. Then again, it's one of the only ones. Laser Squad Nemesis doesn't even touch the paranoia with each turn, the Lovecraftian aliens that methodically kill every one of your team members, the Civilization-esque tech tree that you crawl through, trying to find any possible advantage you can. They just don't make games like this anymore.
May 30, 200520 yr comment_2316662 3. Uncharted Waters: New Horizons (SNES) - Fun little game taking place in the Age Of Exploration, as you controlled one of six characters who had to complete a certain goal. It took a long while to actually beat, but it had to be one of most fun games I've ever played. 2. Suikoden 2 (PS1)- I just love everything about this game from the battle system to the story to the choice of characters. 1. L'Empereur (NES) - Another historical game, this time you take control of Napoleon with the objective to become Emperor and to take over Europe. It took me like 5 years to finally beat this game, but when I finally did, it was very rewarding.
May 31, 200520 yr comment_2337231 Just as a side note, since I recently finished it - if I had played Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (PS2) back in my formative years, it would probably have the extra nostalgia kick to put it into my top three. Seriously, one of the best games I've ever seen, top to bottom.
