Posted December 11, 200717 yr comment_5425080 Buddy Rose vs. Butch Miller (2/3 Falls) (6/7/80) - Miller is avenging his partner. Rose is fighting the match under protest so he stalls and tries o avoid Miller the first few minutes. When Miller finally gets a hold of him, he goes on the attack and just beats the shit out of him and after three jumping elbows, he gets the easy pin. This is excellent booking as Miller just dismantles Rose. The 2nd fall was back and forth and Rose gets the the pin using the ropes for leverage. 3rd fall is short but wild as it goes to the outside and Rose posts Miller and gets the blood flowing. The match ends in a countout but Rose and Miller keep brawling in and out of the ring. Another nomination. (Lynch Vol. 2)
March 28, 201114 yr comment_5468528 This began exactly the way it should have, with Buddy stalling to avoid Miller's fury over the previous weekend's betrayal. I liked that Buddy was basically helpless to fight him off once they engaged and that he only got back in the match with dirty opportunism. Will mentioned in one of his other posts how logical the Portland stuff was, and the crowd's reactions here show the effectiveness of simple, well-executed wrestling storytelling. Butch had a righteous grievance and the fans got to enjoy his payback (in the form of those nasty fucking elbows). That was the first fall. But there was a reason Buddy stayed on top; he was a devious s.o.b with the talent to capitalize on the opportunities he created. That was the second fall, a fitting counterpoint to the first. Then the third fall, with the out-of-control brawling and the blood and another strong promo from Butch, was a perfect way to leave them wanting more. The match featured nothing inherently spectacular, but it all made so much sense. Anyway, another nomination.
December 20, 201113 yr comment_5490563 This was just wrestling 101, a match that was easy to understand and follow. Their is some good brawling on display here. A good finish to a feud that is just starting. Low end nomination.
July 10, 201213 yr comment_5509782 This is pretty much the definition of "simple but effective." Buddy is really great at putting over anyone and Miller was very game at this point in his career. The stalling was a perfect way to start it as it made everything that came after it feel like a bigger deal than it really was. I think Childs breakdown really hits it. I would add that the post-match stuff was really good and intense. Without that stuff I think this is something that could theoretically be left on the cutting room floor. With it I think it makes the set.
