Posted December 11, 200717 yr comment_5425081 Buddy Rose vs. Butch Miller (Lumberjack Match) (6/21/80) - Another match that starts out with Miller kicking Buddy's ass. At one point, Buddy tries to run away from the match but the lumberjacks chase him and carry him back to the ring. Great way of getting the gimmick over. About 8 minutes in, Rogers throws a chain to Rose who is blocked by Piper when he tries to use it. He knocks Piper out but Miller rams Rose into his own hand and wins the match. THis wasn't nearly as good as the 2/3 Falls matches I hav nominated so far but I'll throw this on as a low-level nomination to see what you guys think. (Lynch Vol. 2)
March 28, 201114 yr comment_5468530 Smart use of the lumberjack stip as a way to curtail Buddy's bullshit from their previous match. His interactions with the lumberjacks were probably the highlights of the match (if not his gigantic flying knee off the top.) But this needed a little more time and a little more violence from Butch. Given the unflattering comparison to the 2/3 falls match, I don't think it needs to be on the set. No vote.

July 10, 201213 yr comment_5509783 Disagreement here as I liked this better than the first match. Neither match was loaded with "stuff," but I thought Buddy's fleeing from the Lumberjacks and being brought back against his will was a great payoff for the stalling from the previous match and I thought this had a steadier flow than the first match. Crowd seemed really amped for this and I thought they built well, with Buddy's big knee being a really huge looking spot for the era. The finishing sequence was slightly off time, but not in a distracting way. I have no problem with both making the set, and I'm in the minority obviously, but if forced to choose I'd pick this one.
