Posted December 11, 200717 yr comment_5425082 Buddy Rose, Ed Wiskowski & Fidel Cortez vs. Butch Miller, Luke Williams & Lord Jonathan Boyd (2/3 Falls) (7/19/80) - The first fall finds the Sheeps working over the arms of Cortez and then Wiskowski. The big spot had Ed shoot into the ropes and knock Buddy off the apron. When the heels gain control, Jonathan Boyd takes a great bump off a rope choke. When he regains control, Boyd ends it with a flying knee drop on Wiskowski. The 2nd fall has Miller playing FIP and Rose finally comes into the match when the heels are firmly in control. The hot tag is amde to Boyd who bounces Buddy around in and out of the ring. Luke Williams is tagged in, misses the back elbow and is put down with a sleeper. After the fall, while the referee is distracted, the heels take turns pounding Williams who still isn't awake from the sleeper. One of the things I really like about the Portland 2/3 Falls matches is that the guys who ended the last fall have to be the ones to start the next fall so Williams continues the match as FIP. The 3rd fall ends with a shmoz as Rose rolls Miller up for the pin while holding the tights. I don't think this is the best match i have seen today but it is worth a watch. Boyd was really on fire here and Buddy was great as usual, even when he wasn't the legal man, always keeping things interested on the outside. Nomination. (Lynch Vol. 2)
March 28, 201114 yr comment_5468532 As great as Buddy was on the apron and at ringside, I wanted him in the match more. He and Wiskowski left Cortez to carry a lot of the load, and the "Cuban" wasn't so compelling. Nonetheless, Boyd helped to made this a lot of fun with his great energy and bumping. They kept the crowd hot throughout. I'll second the nomination, though it's low-end.
July 10, 201213 yr comment_5509786 I liked the heel work in the first fall. It was not mind blowing at all, but they isolated Miller really well and Miller was good working underneath for all of them. Wiskowski has this way of fucking with opponents that is really awesome. I am not a huge Cortez fan, but I dug his act as he's hitting hooking clotheslines, biting dudes, and going to the Cobra Clutch of all things. Boyd also ruled hard in this fall and I loved Buddy's big bumps to the floor. As a whole I enjoyed this but didn't think it was a home run. Low end at best.
January 15, 20169 yr comment_5720699 2 out of 3 Falls Match: Fidel Cortez, "Playboy" Buddy Rose, & Ed Wiskowski vs. Jonathan Boyd & The Sheepherders (Butch Miller & Luke Williams)Boyd with long hair is always wild to see and the fans love the Sheeps. Sheeps were dominant in the 1st fall with Buddy doing his best to avoid getting involved but the Sheeps would send Wiskowski into him knocking him off the apron where Boyd would go to the floor to beat Rose up a little. Cortez would get the advantage on Luke and the crowd was going nuts cheering for Luke to fight back and it's amazing watching the Sheeps getting RnR Express treatment from the fans. Boyd would get caught in the corner and that allowed Rose to come in the ring since the heels were in control and he got some shots in before leaving again. Boyd would hit a big flying knee off the top rope on Wiskowski to take the fall. Sheeps cut a promo between falls saying that they won't accept Rose's challenge for a hair match. The 2nd fall starts up with more of the same as Wiskowski gets worked over but Cortez would come in and caught Butch in the shoulder allowing the rudos to finally get some extended offense in. The heels also bust Miller open as well so they work over the cut a good bit. Miller was good working FIP before getting the hot tag to Boyd who runs wild on Rose here with Rose bumping all over the ring to the floor. It would end up with Cortez & Williams in the ring with Cortez using the Cobra Clutch to win the 2nd fall. Rick Martel cuts a promo between falls talking about his upcoming match with Buddy Rose. The 3rd fall starts with Cortez working over Luke's throat again with Rose & Wiskowski getting their shots in as well. Luke would get the hot tag to Boyd who came in hot but got a knee right in the gut from Rose and now he was getting beaten on with various claw holds before tagging Luke back in. This would end up with everyone fighting each other but Rose & Miller were the legal men. Wiskowski snuck in though and got an O'Connor Roll on Miller with Sandy Barr counting the pin even though he wasn't the legal man but Wiskowski put Rose's wig on to trick him. This baited the Sheeps into accepting the hair match in a promo afterwards with Don Owen coming out and saying that he would make it a cage match. This was a really fun match with a creative finish and I'll pass this forward as a low-end nomination.
