Buddy Rose vs. Jay Youngblood (2/3 falls) (1/3/81)

- First fall has Rose working on the arm and is centered around Youngblood getting out of Rose's arm work. However, the 2nd half of the fall has Youngblood going to town on Rose's arm. Unique ending as Youngblood keeps chopping Rose's arm until Rose quits. The 2nd fall has both guys wokring on each others' arms when in control. However, Rose gets DQed and loses 2 straight falls again. I enjoyed this match much more than the first meeting and it is probably my favorite Rose-Youngblood matchup on this disc.

This is just damn good wrestling. Rose is such a pro at working a body part. We have seen it before with his back work, but here it is the arm and it's fantastic. Youngblood was no slouch at working Rose's arm either. The ending was kinda of a let down but everything before that was tremendous and we got a 20 minute bout that felt like 5 minutes because of the work was so interesting. Plus the dosey doe spot is so cool looking. Nomination

This definitely struck me as more focused and competitive than their first singles match a week earlier. The dueling armwork, with Rose ultimately saying uncle, made for a compelling first fall. In fact, I might have liked the match even more if it ended at that point. But I guess they were buildign a theme of Buddy losing two straight falls to Youngblood, so the DQ ending didn't bother me too much. They made a classic heel-babyface pairing, and this should go on the set.

God damn Buddy is an underrated offensive wrestler. He doesn't have a ton of "regular" offense, but he is so good at mixing in spots depending on the theme of the match and opponent. The dosey do spots were great here as were the counters and hope spot teases. The big flashy chain sequence with Rose finally getting reversed and Youngblood hammering his arm was excellent stuff. Fucking loved the idea of Rose submitting from never ending punches to the arm.

Second fall Buddy comes out selling the arm which is one of the things that is always done just right in Portland. Buddy countering the barrage with eyerakes and cheapshots was good stuff and I liked him going back to the arm. Really cool hope spot with Buddy's mouth getting busted open and Youngblood takes back over with work on the arm. Really loved Buddy fighting back with kicks/chops/punches and Youngblood refusing to drop the arm. I kind of loved the finish with Buddy realizing that he has no chance to break the arm so he cheap shots Sandy Barr and gets the match tossed out.

I can't see any argument against this making the set.
