NWA Power Hour 9/29 & 10/6/89

9/29

Dynamic Dudes vs. The New Zealand Militia (WWW)

- Ace pins Victory with a rollup.

Wrestling News Network w/ Gordon Solie

Ric Flair vs. Wild Bill Irwin

- So many awesome Flair matches will be on this set. This won't be one of them.

Funk’s Grill w/ Gary Hart

The Great Muta vs. Dick Murdoch

- On the Mid South set, a Murdoch match was almost automatic. He has been much more hit or miss here. He is still a badass but with the new high-impact guys coming in you can tell he is in a business leaving him behind. This brings us to this match which epitomizes the contrast between the old and the new. However, Muta decides to slow it down and doesn't break out some of the high-end stuff he was doing that year. I appreciate the fact he was focusing on the leg, and thank God for Dick Murdoch because I don't think a lesser opponent would have been able to keep it interesting with pins and counters. Even with Dick's help, it wasn't that appealing. It looks like Murdoch had it won with a big elbow but Dick Slater knocks him over the head with his cast to give Muta the win. I can't vote for this,

10/6

Z-Man vs. Trent Knight

- No

Wrestling News Network w/ Gordon Solie

Dynamic Dudes vs. Mike Rotunda & Cuban Assassin

NWA Power Hour 9/29/89

The Dynamic Dudes (Johnny Ace & Shane Douglas) vs. The New Zealand Militia (Rip Morgan & Jacko Victory) (9/11/89)

This has Cornette & Paul E. both at ringside and the Dudes come out pissed because of the Militia injuring Ace so the Dudes could go to All-Japan. The heat that was there when the match started subsided quickly and it became just a normal tag match. Dudes worked hard but the Militia were just pedestrian on offense which was fine but didn't make for a dynamic match.

Next we get WNN where Gordon Solie talks about Scott Steiner coming back, Jake Roberts (again) coming back, and Eduardo Perez dying.

"Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. Wild Bill Irwin (8/28/89)

Flair facing random wrestlers on TV at this time was so great and this was yet another really good match. Flair was tremendous working babyface here and Irwin did fine but there wasn't enough for a nomination.

Then we get a great Funk's Grill with Gary Hart and Funk telling everyone to just say no.

The Great Muta vs. "Capt. Redneck" Dick Murdoch (9/18/89)

These two had a really fun match a few months ago so we will see how this goes. Muta tries to keep this at a slow pace and Murdoch down on the mat working over his leg so there is a good bit of time where nothing is really happening. Murdoch finally hitting a fucking enzuigiri changed the tone as then Murdoch then took control and then he worked over Muta's ankle. Gary Hart would eventually piss off Murdoch and Dick went after him on the floor before Muta tried to attack him and got hit instead. They went back to the ring for more matwork and this was just not what we needed. Murdoch would eventually deck Hart and Muta went on the attack then Dick Slater came out and he nailed Murdoch with his cast allowing Muta to get the win. This was decent at best.

Cornette and Ross then announce that the Dudes won Wrestlers of the Week.

NWA Power Hour 10/6/89

The Z-Man vs. Trent Knight (9/25/89)

Z-Man getting the theme from Batman was so great and he gets a good win here.

Next we get WWN with Solie talking about Thunderdome.

The Dynamic Dudes (Johnny Ace & Shane Douglas) vs. Cuban Assassin & "Captain" Mike Rotundo (9/25/89)

Stan Lane joins Jim Ross on commentary and the seeds of dissension has begun. Jim Ross of course stirs the pot in his own way also. The match was pretty good actually as the Dudes looked good both on offense and defense before getting the win.

Then we get Funk's Grill with Woman and this is amazing. Extra material.

Road Warrior Animal vs. Jacko Victory (9/25/89)

This is an odd match no doubt and Animal gets the win fairly easily.

Cornette & Ross then announce that the Skyscrapers were Wrestlers of the Week.
