Posted December 15, 200717 yr comment_5425314 Dick Murdoch vs. Lex Luger (Power Hour 11/10/89) (20:19) - Man, this plays almost like a 1989 version of the Murdoch-Nightmare match where the ref prevents Dick from getting down and dirty while Luger gets away with the dirty tricks. There aren't many wrestling moves in this but alot of punches which is a good thing in a Murdoch match. Late in the match, the ref continues to catch Luger cheating. This plays perfectly into the finish as they pound each other in the corner and as the ref tries to separate them, both wrestlers throw him off resulting in a double DQ. This was awesome to see Murdoch in classic form and Luger has had some really good matches in 1989. Easy nomination in my book.
December 15, 200717 yr comment_5425318 This wasn't all Murdoch. Luger was really good too. The Boston crab using his head for leverage in the middle turnbuckle is something I've never seen him do before or after. Yes vote.
December 15, 200717 yr Author comment_5425330 I wasn't trying to imply that this was all Murdoch. In fact, I have seen better Luger matches in 1989 than Murdoch matches. This was just one of those matches where both guys were really good and the match benefits from it.
August 19, 201411 yr comment_5620283 This is a solid nomination. The work here was really smart. Their was a lot of body work done which I'm a mark for. I also really liked how Luger worked the crowd and his heel work here. Both guys just worked a smart match . You see Luger work the arm and then transitions to working the back. Murdoch at 1st working the arm and then transitioning into working the leg. I thought they positioned Murdoch's comebacks perfectly.
October 16, 20177 yr comment_5816842 US Heavyweight Title: "Total Package" Lex Luger © vs. "Capt. Redneck" Dick Murdoch (10/30/89)This is quite the interesting matchup and I love that it's on TV. Really fun styles clash as Murdoch wants to brawl but Luger wants to run and hide staying away from any kind of roughhouse tactics. I loved Murdoch using the wakigatame on the mat before Luger was able to break free. Luger was so damn great here working as a heel inside and outside the ring and his selling was really not good. I loved how Murdoch was treated as a serious threat to Luger's title throughout. This was a total back and forth slugfest with Luger trying to cheat and win a couple of times putting his feet on the ropes but Nick Patrick caught him every time. Murdoch would pop Nick and then Luger would do the same ending the match in a DDQ which was a shit finish but this match was too damn good not to move forward.
