King Kong Bundy & “Ravishing” Rick Rude vs. Jerry “The King” Lawler & “Macho Man” Randy Savage (9/10/84)

Lawler & Savage are teaming up for the first time to face their common allies. The fans are apeshit for Savage here coming in taking potshots at Bundy as he is in the ring with Lawler. Bundy would accidentally knock Rude to the floor so Savage comes over running to Rude and smashes his head on the ringside table. Bundy would throw Lawler in the corner going for the running splash but Savage would pull Lawler out of the corner making Bundy miss and the crowd is eating this up. Rude tags in and demands Savage come in to which he does and Rude takes a beating including the diving double axehandle to the floor. Bundy grabs a chair to beat Savage but Savage picks up one of the security posts to counter forcing Bundy to walk away. Rude & Bundy would trap Lawler in their corner and started pounding on him but Lawler uses his great punches on both to get away. Rude then becomes a pinball being bounced around by both men’s punches and Savage uses his awesome Airplane Spin rendering both men dizzy. Bundy tags in and has a standoff with Savage then spits on him really setting Savage off as just tees off on Bundy hitting a cross body block for a nearfall. Lawler tags in and Bundy just dominates him with Rude tagging in and getting his shots in as well along with taunting Savage. Lawler takes a lot of punishment here and Savage gets pissed off so he jumps in the ring starts pounding on Bundy then follows Rude to the floor where he beats on him. Bundy would miss a splash and Lawler starts firing up then drops the strap and starts waylaying Bundy with punches tagging in Savage who hits the diving axehandle on Rude. The action then goes to the floor with Lawler using a chair on Bundy and Savage hitting Rude with the ring steps. Lawler then uses an object on both Rude & Bundy and it ends up being a wild brawl going to the back with the heels winning by DQ. This was phenomenal and a slam dunk nomination.

Totally awesome blast. I loved all of the early heel bumping around for Lawler and Savage, and Lawler is a great babyface in peril. Savage on the WWF set didn't do a ton for me, but Memphis Savage was the truth. I loved the dueling spitting in the face between Savage and Bundy. The crazy finish was awesome too, as Lawler was just tossing that heavy looking chair at Bundy.

The heat was off the charts here. The play by play was totally drowned out. Lawler's FIP was great. The heels just go after his neck with a sense of purpose. Savage's timing was spot on to the helping of Lawler, to not being their to get the tag etc.. The wrestlers really built the drama. Rude and Bundy were a strong heel team for Lawler and Savage and the atmosphere had a big time match feel to it. This is an easy nomination to go forward.
