Steel Cage Match for the NWA World TV Title: Tully Blanchard © vs. “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes (7/6/85)

 

These two have been feuding for 5 months so this is the culmination of their feud so Tully can move on to Magnum and if Dusty wins this match, Baby Doll will be his for 30 days. This match is from Independence Stadium in Charlotte and I always loved the stadium venue for wrestling. Dusty juices early here and Tully just brutalizes him working on the cut which is a nasty one over his right eye. Dusty would start throwin bows though to break up the attack then slams Tully into the cage numerous times viciously to get color from him. Both men throw some great punches here to the wounds especially Tully with some good short left hands. Dusty would come back using bionic elbows before hitting with him a bigtime clothesline for a nearfall then follows with a hard headbutt out of frustration that would lead to a figure-four leglock. Tully would reverse this though but Dusty would roll over into the ropes. Dusty would throw more bows but Tully would try for a piledriver that Dusty would counter with a backdrop into the cage. Tully then tried to climb out of the cage so Dusty joined him up top and used more headbutts and an elbow to knock him off but would miss a diving elbow off the top rope. Tully then climbed back up top where Baby Doll would hand him something but Dusty threw him off and hit a piledriver for the pinfall to a gigantic ovation. Baby Doll cries out in anger as Magnum & Sam Houston lead the babyfaces in a celebration in the ring. This was a vicious no nonsense brutal fight in the cage and an awesome match. Definite nomination.

I feel this is a low-end nomination. They use the cage to inflict pain upon one another.Tully in particular took a pounding. Both men bleed and allows each other to go after the cuts. This was no non sense here. The hate really translated onto the screen. The payoff of getting Baby Doll was great.

I need to watch this.
