Posted December 24, 200717 yr comment_5425863 Great match, a good bit better than the Badstreet match the next week. Lawler & Gordy were great as you'd expect, but Hayes & Idol were both pretty sharp, too, with Hayes bringing a lot more offense than usual and Idol throwing really nice punches. Gordy was the MVP, taking some great bumps including flying over the top rope off a Lawler punch, a really great Flair-style corner press slam bump, and taking a Ray Stevens corner bump into a tree of woe, plus he had some great looking moves like a near-Dynamite level snap suplex, a brainbuster on the floor, and his usual awesome piledriver behind the referee's back. His theatrical selling for an Idol stomp to the groin was great, too. Speaking of Idol and other men's testes, early in the match he did a fun spot where he borrowed a fan's cane and hooked the nads of each Freebird with the handle. Finish was suitably nasty-looking and chaotic to set up the rematch, as Lawler tries to fireball Hayes, but Hayes pulls the ref in the way to take it right in the face. Then he steals the ref's belt and whips Lawler while Gordy beats up Randy Hales solely so he can steal his shoe to use as a weapon. This was a blast.
February 25, 200817 yr comment_5428608 The Freebirds vs. Lawler/Idol It opens up with fists ablazing. Gordy just takes huge bumps. Idol uses this walking stick unlike how I thought he would. This was cool. Lawler's 2nd rope fist drop is just choice. Gordy suplexes Lawler on the concrete outside. This was a big spot in the match. Lawler is now FIP. Lawler is great at milking sympathy from the crowd. Man Gordy just plant Lawler with a killer piledriver. Gordy tries again and reverses it. Eventually, Lawler makes a hot tag. For the finish Lawer throws fire at Hayes. Hayes pulls the ref in front and he gets burned. A beatdown in the postmatch where the faces make their own save. This was good stuff, and a nomination.
March 26, 200817 yr comment_5429970 Jerry Lawler & Austin Idol vs. Freebirds - The Birds keep feeding Idol who takes advantage with some ball shots and big punches. Idol's punches aren't as good as Lawler's or Dundee's but he works hard enough to keeo things fun. After watching the Lawler-Gordy matchup, you long for a singles match between the two. I am sure the brainbuster on the concrete early on will drive Phil and Tom nuts. However, at this point, the Birds work overtime on Lawler's neck. Shoe is right ... that piledriver was SWEET! I wish they would have worked the FIP section a little longer. The fireball looked wild but we have seen better post-match brawls on the set. This was pretty good and I have no problem sending it through.
July 16, 200817 yr comment_5433036 This was completely awesome, no beef with the brainbuster on the floor. Lawler doesn't go right back on offense, like a Race jobber opponent would. Lawler throws an amazing fistdrop which is even better then normal. Crazy post match. Loved this
August 7, 200817 yr comment_5433712 Violent heated action with all four men going nuts on offense and using just about everything in their arsenal to get the advantage. Idol and the Birds was a natural feud from 5 years earlier and you add Lawler to the fray and you have greatness. Gordy's brainbuster on the floor to Lawler looked nasty as well as the piledriver later. The referee really ate the fireball spot leading to the DQ then the post match was fucking great with the Birds using the referee's belt and Randy Hales' shoe to pound the faces until they made their comeback. Definite nomination.
