“Gentleman” Chris Adams vs. Kevin Von Erich (7/13/85)

 

This is a brawl from the bell with both men just throwing bombs on each other and Adams hitting a great bladejob then trying to draw blood from Kevin but Kevin starts firing back by bashing Adams’ head on the ringside table then slamming him on it. Adams throws a chair at Kevin then brings one himself but they lay them down and the action goes back to the ring. Kevin would miss a running body press into the corner and Admas goes to the advantage using a sleeper hold but Kevin would get out although Adams would retain the advantage. Adams would tie Kevin up in the top rope then grabs the restraining rope and tries to choke Kevin but it gets countered and Kevin starts choking Adams out with Bronko Lubich stopping the match. Kevin gets on the mic and says he got DQed so he doesn’t care anymore and jumps on Adams on the floor just beating his ass then takes him outside the Sportatorium before shutting the door. Shitty finish but the action was so violent and great with a molten hot crowd, this goes on the block.

It wasn't a clean finish but I don't think Kevin choking the fuck out of Adams is a shitty finish. KRis was right. This was a brawl (Mainly Adams getting his ass kicked). Adams relies on the sleeper thinking it is the only thing that will slow down this coke-crazed motherfucker who just busted him open. Anyway, Strong Nomination!

This should go without saying, but for fast guy with a lot of high-tech offense vs. violent British guy, this absolutely crushes the Tiger Mask/Dynamite Kid matches...and it's not even going to be close to being the best thing on this set. But that's not a knock on this crazy fight, just an acknowledgment that there's even better stuff out there. This is still pretty great, and should make the set.
