Posted January 2, 200817 yr comment_5426244 This was pretty goddamn great, just a nutty spectacle with crazy crowd littering the ring with garbage, the ring encased in flames. Match itself was fine, both guys are decent brawlers, and Colon got his head pushed into the flames multiple times. I also loved the finish with Colon refusing to release the figure four, including puttting Ayala back into it post match. Good shit.
May 14, 201213 yr comment_5502514 Inferno Match: Carlos Colon vs. Hercules Ayala (9/10/88) Ayala is getting pelted with trash as he comes to the ring which is great. The wire around the ring ropes are on fire and this is quite the fucking visual here and they start throwing each other into the fire early. Ayala trying to ram Colon's face in the fire with the tight camera shot was awesome. Colon comes back and forces juice from Ayala before trying to burn him and this is some great shit. The back and forth action continues as both men beat the shit out of each other before Colon locks on the figure-four to win and refuses to break the hold after the match. This was awesome and a definite nomination.
February 6, 201312 yr comment_5533642 Hercules Ayala attacks Carlos Colon and his wife Just watch this. Its scummy as all hell and a good set up for... Hercules Ayala v. Carlos Colon - Fire Match 1988 This is another awesome and insane match. I have watched this one many times over the years but it never gets old. Colon goes after Ayala like he's a guy who just attacked his wife and he is a guy who just attacked his wife. This is a full blown sprint, with several great back and fourth strike exchanges and a hell of a pace. I love Ayala countering Colon punches with kicks to the knee and the few fire spots in this were just great. At the beginning of this the fire around the ring is just out of control and there is an early spot where Colon's hands go right into it. Ayala for his part takes a couple of shots into the fire that looked really good too and even as the flames go down this never loses the urgency of a fight where both guys are out to win at any cost. Naturally Colon finishes him off with the figure-four and refuses to let go after the match. A great spectacle and a match that shows you how to get the most out of minimal gimmick use.
