International Heavyweight Title: “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert © vs. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell (9/17/84)

This is JIP at the 5:00 mark. This had some good action as Dutch worked some wrestling holds but Gilbert starts fighting back with punches before hitting a nice backdrop suplex followed up by slamming Dutch’s leg against the ringpost. Gilbert is relentless working on Dutch’s left leg using a chair and the security rope before bringing it back in the ring where he goes for the figure-four leglock but Dutch would soon grab the ropes. Gilbert would try a diving kneedrop off the middle rope on Dutch’s leg but Dutch would roll out of way before making his comeback using some great punches while limping around sending Gilbert over the top rope. Dutch bashes Gilbert’s head into the table a couple of times before taking the punishment back to the ring where he would also hit Hart. Gilbert though would catch Dutch coming in and took his legs out from under him using the ropes as leverage to get the pinfall. Dutch would whine about the finish and Paul Morton would restart the match. Dutch would quickly catch Gilbert in an O’Connor Roll to win the match and the title. Gilbert jumped Dutch after the match and spiked him with a DDT then started pounding him with the belt before Tommy Rich would make the save. Even though this was JIP we still get the last 10 minutes so I’m nominating this. Very fun match.
