Posted January 10, 200817 yr comment_5426756 I’m going through my GCW stuff transferring it to DVD and I’m getting the stuff that GH doesn’t already have complete. Tom Prichard vs. Tony Russo (3/6/82) This match is JIP with Piper & Brad Armstrong having a verbal confrontation then a physical one on the floor while the match is taking place then Prichard tries to fight off Piper. Bullet comes out and the place goes nuts as Kabuki comes in to get him some. Gino Hernandez cuts a great promo with Piper and it’s a shame that Gino didn’t stick around because he could’ve been huge here. Jimmy Garvin & Buzz Sawyer get into a pull-apart brawl at the desk. NWA World Tag Titles Tournament Atlanta Division – Semifinals: Ole Anderson & Stan “The Lariat” Hansen vs. Genichiro Tenryu & Jumbo Tsuruta (2/28/82) This aired complete on the TBS Sunday show with Steve O announcing over the Japanese commentary. Ole & Stan look good as a team early on Tenryu before Jumbo comes in and delivers some great high knees to both men. The fans get behind Jumbo here but the heels get the control back although Jumbo fires some chops to Ole before tagging Tenryu back in. Tenryu was last here two years ago and was basically a job guy but has grown since he left although he takes some big punishment here from Hansen who murders him with the lariat for the victory. Short match but fun. They show tape of Kerry Von Erich from Dallas. Chief Wahoo McDaniel vs. Ricky Harris (3/20/82) Wahoo throws some wicked chops here on the future Black Bart. Gino sends in a promo from San Antonio telling the fans why he won’t show up in the studio because he doesn’t work for free. Ole is at the desk and talks about his Minnesota Loggers match against Dusty on 4/18 at the Omni with a taped retort by Dusty. (4/10/82) Ray “The Crippler” Stevens returns to Georgia as a babyface. Dusty then shows up live and cuts an awesome promo about darkness. Brad Armstrong puts on the Minnesota Loggers material and you can guess what happens next as Ole jumps Brad only to have Dusty run him off then puts it on himself. This stuff is awesome and extra worthy. Tommy Rich interviews a sick kid at the hospital and it’s as awkward as you would expect. In what would set off a great TV episode, Rich & Piper get into it at the desk regarding their strap match at the Omni the next night then runs off with Bullet shows up. They would have another confrontation right after it then Dick Slater would show up. (4/17/82) Paul Orndorff vs. Jim Dalton (4/17/82) Orndorff makes his TV debut and would be very successful here. Piper would cut an insane promo about the strap match. Buzz Sawyer vs. “Wildfire” Tommy Rich (4/17/82) Solie basically says this is a #1 contender match for Ron Bass’ National Heavyweight Title. These two don’t hate each other yet. Rich spends the early part of the match working on Buzz’s left arm and the Techwood crowd is very hot for this match. The time limit was doubled here so Rich is taking his time working on the arm but Buzz would finally get out and would give Rich a knee smash that would send him to the floor. Rich climbs to the apron but gets dropped neck first by Buzz sending him back to the floor. Buzz would give Rich a high backdrop when he re-entered the ring but Rich would start firing away with punches before giving Buzz his own backdrop. Rich would then lock in a sleeper hold but would throw Buzz into the corner before locking it in again. Rich would take Buzz to the mat as they go to commercial and then when they come back, Rich is on the floor as he has been attacked by Piper with a strap. Rich then cuts a great heated promo vowing revenge. It’s too bad we don’t have the finish on tape because the match was pretty strong considering it was a studio match and with these two in the ring. Dusty cuts a promo talking about forming a team for the first time with Tommy Rich (5/8/82) Buzz Sawyer vs. David Jones (5/8/82) Buzz is the new National champion and looks awesome here. Rhodes & Rich cut a promo talking about facing Piper & Ole. Piper comes out with a stuffed monkey around his neck talking about Dusty bringing in George “The Animal” Steele the week before. Kevin Sullivan comes out to talk shit then Ole shows up before Solie shows the happenings from the previous week. This was some fucking great shit that must be an extra because this is the best use of The Animal I’ve ever seen. (5/1/82) Yeah I fucked up my chronology. “Bad Bad” Leroy Brown vs. Ricky Harris (5/1/82) Here is the beef right here. I loved Leroy here as he was a great babyface enforcer. Superstar shows up and it ends up in a brawl of course. Ole & Piper are wrestling while Rich does commentary and another wild brawl would ensue with The Animal. Then when they showed the footage again another wild brawl would start up. This was great TV. Michael Hayes vs. Bill White (5/15/82) Michael makes his return to TBS after a few weeks and Piper on commentary is awesome because he pimps Bill White to the moon then helps White win the match in a tremendous angle. Bill White is the father of “Bad Boy” Billy Black.
