January 10, 200817 yr comment_5426806 Rick Gibson vs. Nightmare & Speed - Nightmare and Speed bloody Gibson up and end up getting disqualified. Possible Extra. I threw this on the block as a low-end nomination for now. May have been a purely vampiric reaction, but anyway, given the footage availability issues, for now I'm nominating anything that got a decent amount of time and garnered any sort of visceral reaction from me. Jerry Lawler & Bill Dundee vs. Terry Gordy & Michael Hayes* - We need to find out if this damn match is 79 or 80. If '80, it goes on. If '789, it doesn't. It's '79 (possibly 7/28/79 to be more specific). Nice to find out we have a cleaner copy of this match, though.
January 10, 200817 yr Author comment_5426807 In reference to #1, I thought it was more extra than qualifying match for any set. However, I thought the Lawler/Dundee tag from 2.1 fit more of the needs to be seen at least to be judged viewpoint. For #2, I don't know if this is a better version. I think Barnett's is the only complete version i have actually seen.
January 10, 200817 yr comment_5426809 Lawler/Dundee vs Fuchi/Onita is a much stronger candidate, no doubt about it, but we're early in the proccess and unsure of what other full stuff awaits us. I'm sure the Gibson match will end up getting voted off but I felt like nominating it for now. I didn't watch the Freebirds match, just FFwded for now but it seemed long enough to be the whole thing. If it's clipped, then it's the 3rd version I've seen. Bob's, a much shorter one with much better VQ, and this one, not quite full but better VQ than Bob's.
January 10, 200817 yr Author comment_5426810 I believe this one is complete until the 3rd fall. I think the Barnett one has the complete 3rd fall.
February 25, 200817 yr comment_5428567 Dream Machine vs. Ricky Morton (9/26/81) Dream dominates this until Valiant runs in for the DQ. Handicap Match for the Southern Tag Titles: Ricky Gibson © vs. The Nightmare (Danny Davis) & Speed (Ken Wayne) (9/26/81) This is a handicap match due to Robert having to attend to an emergency. Jimmy Hart wants his boys to break Gibson’s fingers so he can’t communicate with his deaf mother. Nightmare loads up his mask and they bloody Gibson who juices like crazy. Gibson tries to fight back hitting everyone including Jerry Calhoun prompting a DQ. I’m with GH as this wasn’t really a match but it was a great angle that sees Calhoun attack Jimmy Hart after the match and eats a spike piledriver for his effort. They show highlights of Keirn/Dutch from MSC on 9/21/81. Fun stuff. “Superstar” Bill Dundee & Roy Rogers vs. Masa Fuchi & Atsushi Onita (10/3/81) JIP with Dundee getting the win. First Family comes out with Jimmy Hart wearing a huge bowtie making fun of the Gibsons and their mother again doing fake sign language that is fucking hilarious. Hart then says that Lawler & Calhoun are gay then Tojo Yamamoto shows up demanding a rematch of the previous match. Hart then makes fun of Tojo before getting chopped. This was fantastic and a definite extra. (10/3/81) Jimmy comes back out and demands that Jerry Calhoun show up as he has disrespected him with his “imitation” of him since he has become Lawler’s manager. Calhoun comes in and they have a brawl in the ring before Stan Lane & Sugar show up to gang up on Calhoun but Lawler would eventually get in the ring to make the save. This is another definite extra. Tojo Yamamoto comes out saying that Fuchi & Onita have been kidnapped and can’t wrestle Dundee & Roy Rogers in a rematch. Hart comes out and tells Tojo that he has signed Fuchi & Onita and they are in Las Vegas leading to a hilarious chase. This is hilarious stuff. (10/10/81) They show highlights of Dream/Valiant from 9/26/81. Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. “Golden Boy” Chick Donovan (10/10/81) Calhoun is Lawler’s corner to counter Hart but chases him off. Nice little match with Lawler getting the dupe after Chick had a lot of offense. They show highlights of Lawler/Sugar from MSC on 10/5/81 and Sugar looks awesome. Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. Pat Hutchinson (10/17/81) Lawler destroys Pat but then gets attacked by Killer Karl Krupp with a trashcan. They show highlights of Lawler/Yamamoto vs. Cuban/Iranian Assassins from 11/9/81 at MSC with Hart getting a piledriver from Lawler then a great interview with Hart in a wheelchair waving a Confederate Flag. Hart gets up and introduces the Super Destroyer (Killer Karl Krupp) then challenges Lawler to a match where if he wins then he gets Hart. (11/14/81) Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. Super Destroyer (Killer Karl Krupp) (11/14/81) Destroyer just destroys Lawler here using the ringpost and his fists to cause a bad cut on Lawler’s right eye forcing Jerry Calhoun to stop the match. They show the Super Destroyer using his variation of the piledriver from MSC on 11/9/81. Lawler then cuts a great promo about the eye injury and this stuff is extra material. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell vs. The Shadow (10/31/81) Dutch gets attacked by Dream Machine who spray paints a yellow streak down his back. They cut a promo afterwards with “Dutch” in a Big Bird costume that gets beat up by Dream. This is hilarious. Next we get some awesome 1978-79 stuff with Lawler, Valiant, Dundee, the debut of the Freebirds, and many others. They show Andy Kaufman wrestling women at MSC on 11/23/81.
