Posted January 10, 200817 yr comment_5426812 Disc 1 Jimmy Hart Interview (w/ Eddie Marlin confrontation) Dundee & Dream Machine vs. Sullivan & Ferris - Pretty awesome post match brawl as they fight through the arena 25 years before Austin and Bret. I think in the end this will be more EXTRA than nominated match. Lawler vs. Killer Karl Krupp - LAwler drops Krupp with a couple of legdrops. Jimmy Hart & Karl Krupp Interview - Shit, Krupp is so bad this may have to go on as a craptastic Extra. Jimmy Valiant commercial - EXTRA complete with KISS tour jacket and super-sized sunglasses. Interviews: Austin Idol; Bill Dundee Bill Dundee, Robert Gibson, & Tojo Yamamoto vs. Tommy Rich, Bill Irwin & Gypsy Joe - I know Dundee is pretty good but he really shouldn't try to armdrag shitty opponents. First fall was ok with Dundee taking the first fall after a Samoan Drop on Irwin. 2nd fall had Rich's team squash Gibson with some sloppy offense. Final fall, Dundee pins Joe after a flying body press. Still, this entire match was a mess and I can't nominate it in good conscience even though it went a good 15 minutes. I would have preferred a Dundee-Rich singles 2/3 falls match. Lawler vs. Race 1979 (Clips) - More Jerry Lawler clips including clips of Lawler bumping around. (Possible Extra) Jerry Lawler Interview Tony Charles vs. Bobby Eaton & Jimmy Hart - Jerry Lawler and Dream Machine brawl Jerry Lawler Disco Music Video Paul Ellering vs. Robert Gibson (JIP) - Ellering and Hart lay waste to the Gibsons Hart & Ellering Interview - I may have to include as an extra just for Ellering's creepiness. Jimmy Valiant & Jimmy Hart Interview - I may have to include this just for the Hollywood Hogan-esque beard/moustache combo. Another Lawler Video Clip Package - EXTRA Jerry Lawler Interview (Possible Extra) Joe LeDuc Video Package (EXTRA) Lawler vs. Ron Bass - Really clipped up Austin Idol Music Video (EXTRA)

By the standards we're using for this set which allows concession stand brawls, I don't get what would make this limited to extra status while letting on Morton/Gilbert vs Onita/Fuchi as a nominated match.

Because it was fun, not great. Even if the bell rang the minute they locked up, i wouldn't nominate it.

January 10, 200817 yr Author comment_5426825 Can fun not be awesome? I think the Paul Ellering skits are awesome as well... doesn't mean they are good. I am easily amused and this was AWESOME to see a fight in the stands 25 years before Hart/Austin... doesn't mean I want it on my set as a match.
January 10, 200817 yr comment_5426828 I absolutely loathe the idea of getting into another semantics argument, but you referred to it as a "pretty awesome post match brawl." For Memphis we're heavily weighing post-match brawls in certain cases, and you used a superlative to describe the post-match brawl, so you can see how I'd misinterpret what you said.
January 10, 200817 yr Author comment_5426832 Sure, but I also made it clear I thought it was an extra. I also think that we should limit post-match brawls except for the Concession Stands since those are looked upon as matches in and of themselves.
January 10, 200817 yr comment_5426834 This specific post-match brawl is looked at as its own match, especially by tape traders & newsletter readers/writers of that era, as shown but its inclusion in Jeff Bowdren's top 100 matches of the '80s list: Wayne Ferris & Kevin Sullivan vs Bill Dundee & The Dream Machine (4/81, Louisville, Ky.) I know that with a guy like Honkeytonk Man, you must be thinking that there is no way this match could have been any good. How wrong you are. This was one of those wild, in the stands type of brawls that the Memphis area is famous for. A little bit of everything took place here.Let's just forget this for now so I can work on influencing everyone else to outvote you
January 10, 200817 yr comment_5426836 Isn't there at least one version of this that shows enough of the match that it should go on as a match anyway?
January 10, 200817 yr Author comment_5426837 It might be this one. If Phil, Tom and Kris feel it should go on, then cool. I personally will not fight for it or think it should go on as a match as it is. I also don't see the problem with putting famous moments on as extras as people still get to see them but they aren't voting for non matches.
January 10, 200817 yr comment_5426839 This tape has the last 3 minutes of the actual match, and what airs from the actual match looks great. I don't know of a longer version. If you don't think the brawl was good enough to make it, that's fine, but it's ridiculous to exclude it for taking place after the match when we're allowing concession stand brawls, all of which take place after the match end and show little to no footage from the actual match.
January 11, 200817 yr Author comment_5426840 It's funny how you say "Let's end this" but keep harping on my opinion. You weren't in the chat with Phil, Kris and I but I didn't think the Concession Stand Brawls should have been in the voting process either. This is actually an old argument that we had before you re-entered the fray. My opinion has not changed but if they get voted in then fuck it. I personally will not be nominating them. As for the Gibsons' Concession Stand Brawl, I didn't commit to voting for it but assumed that it would end up in the mix as it was because of the other guys' insistence of including the Concession Stand Brawls.
January 11, 200817 yr comment_5426843 It's funny how you say "Let's end this" but keep harping on my opinion.I got back into it because I got confused as to which reason you weren't in favor of it. If you just said you were against the idea of the concession stand brawls being included in your first reply, I would've understood. *Hugs*
February 26, 200817 yr comment_5428641 Jimmy Hart comes out for a promo and gets into it with Eddie Marlin about fining Wayne Ferris but Hart calls him the Destroyer so Destroyer gets suspended. Destroyer unmasks of course as Wayne Ferris. (5/30/81) Dream Machine & “Superstar” Bill Dundee vs. Wayne Ferris & Kevin Sullivan (5/26/81) This is JIP and has one of the goddamndest brawls there has even been in wrestling all over the building. I’m with GH here as we don’t have the full match so we can’t put this on as a match but as an extra like we did the Battle of New Orleans. A Masterlock extra. Cast Match: Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. Killer Karl Krupp (9/8/80) Lawler had just returned the week before from his leg injury to beat Jimmy Hart so this match went down and Lawler would reinjure himself here so on the 9/13/80 TV show Krupp & Hart came out gloating about reinjuring Lawler. Krupp ends up throwing his wine into Billy Robinson’s face as he was sitting at the desk. We get a video for some furniture store with Handsome Jimmy that is awesome. 2 out of 3 falls: “Superstar” Bill Dundee, Robert Gibson, & Tojo Yamamoto vs. Gypsy Joe, Dr. Bill Irwin, & “Wildfire” Tommy Rich (10/18/80) This was okay but nothing worth nominating. Next we get a Lawler/Race video from 1978. Then we get a Lawler/Dundee video montage. Handicap Match: Tony Charles vs. “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton & Jimmy Hart (12/22/80) Lawler brawls with Dream Machine on the floor. Next we get a great Jerry Lawler video set to some dance music. Robert Gibson vs. Paul Ellering (2/4/80) This is JIP from MSC and Ellering kills the Gibsons. Yet another Lawler video this time going over his matches since his return. Great video. Lawler then does a great promo about his return and says that he is going to throw Jimmy Hart’s gold record into the river. They also show a Lawler/LeDuc history video. (1/17/81) Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. “Outlaw” Ron Bass (1/26/81) Clipped up from MSC. Next they show the awesome Austin Idol tribute video that Georgia Championship Wrestling did in 1980.
