Posted January 11, 200817 yr comment_5426874 First show was a clip show with interviews, a couple of studio squashes and two MSC matches Mr. Wrestling + Eddie Gilbert + Adrian Street v. Randy Savage + Lanny Poffo + Joe Lightfoot 3/4/85 This was joined about 4 minutes in, but we got about 12 minutes of it. Really fun match with Savage taking some big bumps during his face in peril, and Lightfoot taking a pretty big beating during his. I was really enjoying Mr. Wrestling (who I assume is Tommy Gilbert) who had some nifty looking moves. Savage wins as he drills Wrestling with an axehandle to the back of the head. Fun stuff and I am throwing it up. Rock and Roll Express v. Fabulous Ones 3/4/85 This was a face v. face dream match and started out very cool with a feeling out process, and then Robert Gibson taking a huge ringpost Psicosis bump into the turnbuckle and out to the floor. Lane and Keirn go to work on the arm with some cool stuff, you get your tempers flaring, and then the Interns run in and attack both teams. Really good until the god awful finish, although not a ton of heat because of the face v. face aspect. I am torn on this, but I will nominate it. Then you have a Jerry Lawler show with Tux Newman. Newman accuses Lawler of killing Andy Kaufman with a piledriver which is pretty out there stuff. This was the first time I saw him, but I kind of liked Tux, did he ever go on to anything?
May 1, 200817 yr comment_5430991 This starts with clips of a Dutch Mantell squash match from Florida with Dutch wearing Fabulous Ones tights!! Then we get clips of a Lawler squash from WMC. Next is a Savage video to Fame. Then we get clips of the Lightfoot/Poffomania vs. Hot Stuff/Street/Mr. Wrestling match from MSC which I’ve already seen. Southern Tag Titles: The Fabulous Ones (Steve Keirn & Stan Lane) © vs. The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) (3/4/85) This could be the first ever matchup and quite the match to book for the Memphis fans who love both teams. What I love about this match is that they don’t do the scientific match bullshit where they constantly shake hands and when one goes to the floor they help them back in the ring, they just come out there and started working like they would against any heel team. There is the spot though where Gibson just nukes his shoulder into the ringpost and Keirn slacks on him but it isn’t long though before the Fabs just go to work on the shoulder. It would soon break down with the teams going at it before the Interns show up leading to a no contest finish. Sure the finish sucked but I really liked the action here plus what went on afterwards. I’ll cosign Phil’s nom. And regarding the Lawler show, Tux Newman was great here like Phil said and on what he did afterwards, I think he just faded back into fandom. I know that Jeff did some WOL’s with Meltzer in the eyada days.
