Posted January 11, 200817 yr comment_5426886 This starts with the rest of the Best of Sunday from 8/1/82. Paul Orndorff vs. Chick Donovan (6/19/82) Orndorff looks great here. Roddy Piper makes his return to TV on 8/7/82. Tito Santana vs. Buzz Sawyer (8/7/82) This had some really good fast paced action with Buzz walking out because Tito was hurting his leg. Roy Rogers comes out and tells everyone that he is now known as Johnny Rich. Magnificent Muraco would then show up and then starts pushing Rich who would then fall into Gordon Solie knocking him down and injuring his leg. This was a serious angle at the time because Solie was never injured. This is the beginning of the Roddy Piper face turn as well. Definite extra. “Wildfire” Tommy Rich vs. Super Destroyer (8/14/82) Solie is back on commentary. This starts out with some good action before Buzz Sawyer shows up at ringside so you can tell what is coming soon. Ole, Hansen, & Superstar show up at ringside so that brings out the Freebirds to counter the heels. The match is going really hot as Rich puts Super D in the sleeper then uses a schoolboy for a pin but Sawyer runs in and during all of this Andre the Giant comes out and the place goes nuts as Rich sends Sawyer running out of the ring. This was great stuff. Brad Armstrong & Mr. Wrestling II vs. Ole Anderson & Stan Hansen (8/14/82) Ole & Hansen worked great as a team but the faces were good as well especially II. Sawyer, Superstar, & Super D up at ringside so we are back to where the previous match ended pretty much as Rich, Tito, & Freebirds come back out. II comes in after the hot tag and the action is hot and heavy with II hitting the kneelift on Ole and the brawl is on with Andre coming back out. The ring is filled up with guys brawling and Techwood is going crazy as the faces clean house and stand tall. Tremendous stuff as this was building to a battle royal the next night at the Omni. Paul Orndorff vs. Super Destroyer (8/21/82) Sawyer is out doing commentary. This was a very solid match with both men showcasing some really good mat skills and Super D was one of the most underrated guys ever. Like I have said earlier, Orndorff was at his peak as a worker at this time and was just so damn fluid in the ring. There is a commercial break but it looks like we don’t miss anything of note as Orndorff still had Super D in an armbar. The match goes to a 15:00 draw (14:00 really) with both men still trading the advantage. Some really fun stuff here as both men took it to each other but it was really even and I’m throwing it on the block. Paul Orndorff vs. Super Destroyer (8/28/82) This is from the debut episode of World Championship Wrestling and a rematch from last week as they are setting these two up for a meeting in the National Heavyweight Title tournament the next night at the Omni. Once again they go to a break in the middle of the match but again it doesn’t look like we missed too much. After some really solid action Orndorff would get the dupe with an inside cradle cutback. This was as good as the previous match and this one has a clean finish. Muraco once again comes out to face Johnny Rich at the desk and Rich goes away but Muraco stays and confronts Solie as he is pissed off about not getting respect so this leads to the Piper babyface turn with Techwood going apeshit insane. Piper & Muraco have a great pull-apart brawl with all the heels trying to break it up. Definite extra. Ivan Koloff vs. Tom Prichard (8/28/82) Uncle Ivan comes back to TBS after a long absence. Koloff goes nuts and chunks Prichard over the top rope for the DQ. Brad Armstrong vs. Buzz Sawyer (8/28/82) Sawyer’s bodyslam on Brad at the start of this match is awesome as he throws him down like a piece of paper. This would get as fast paced as you would expect with both men looking great. Hayes joins Solie on commentary and goes to the ring complaining of Sawyer’s roughhouse tactics. Ole would show up to counter Hayes so Hayes jumps in the ring to brawl with Sawyer before Gordy shows up as Ole grabs Buzz taking him away. Good stuff and Solie calls Sawyer a Mad Dog for probably the first time on commentary. This was also Hayes’ last appearance on TBS. Roddy Piper makes his return to TBS as a babyface and a cult hero is born. Ole shows up to confront Piper in a great segment. Piper would then get into it with Ivan Koloff further enduring himself to the fans. Piper would then narrate why he decked Muraco with coins on 8/28/82 which would bring Ole back out leading to Piper decking Ole. Yes this is all extra material. (9/11/82) Sawyer is destroying some jobber when Tom Prichard shows up and Sawyer anniliates him with a kick to the face then throws him from the ring to the floor. Mr. Wrestling II jumps in the ring wearing a suit taking his coat off begging Sawyer to jump in the ring as Techwood goes crazy. Sawyer has now become a Mad Dog and has run off. This was fucking awesome and another extra. Rich & Solie narrate some footage of Rich & Sawyer brawling all over the building in Chattanooga. Piper & Les Thatcher narrate Rich vs. Super D from the Omni on 9/12/82 where Sawyer gets involved furthering their feud. (9/18/82) “Wildfire” Tommy Rich vs. Abdul Zaatar (9/18/82) Rich wins in less than a minute. Piper does a great diatribe about the heels. (9/18/82) More great Piper promos from 9/25/82 including Chick Donovan getting smart with Piper then a brawl ensues that looked like some stiff punches were thrown on Piper’s end. Rich, Solie, & Orndorff narrate footage from Augusta with Rich & Buzz brawling all over the building.
