Barry Windham vs. Ric Flair (Flair DVD)

- Another must-have stone cold lock. The match structure isn't so much a Flair match as it is a classic wrestling match structure (face shinr, heel takes over, hot end run) although Flair did this alot. Windham takes control early on. Flair gets frustrated but plays the methodical "I know I am going long" game. The biggest mark early on is that the commercial breaks hurt the flow but we see that a ton. Flair tosses Barry outside mid-match and takes over. The end run has Flair and Barry going back and forth and I remember watching this in 1987 thinking "Barry is going to win it!" I always hated the ending as this could have been Barry's big moment. However, I think this compares favorably to the Flair-Taylor series and may be comparable to the best of the series.

This is a high end nomination. Holy shit this was great and it's not even their best match in the series. The story telling was great. The athleticism was great. The selling was great. The crowd heat was great. That finishing run was hot. Damn this was awesome.

World Wide Wrestling 1/10/87

We get a pretaped promo from the Cornette, MX, & Bubba to start the show with Cornette celebrating over Bubba winning the Bunkhouse Stampede. Jim Crockett comes out and said that Dusty & Bubba were tied and that they will have a match to determine the true winner. Cornette immediately signed the contract for the match.

"Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant vs. Brodie Chase (1/5/87)

Fans still haven't taken to Valiant's new music yet but they still love him.

Ronnie Garvin & Barry Windham join Bob Caudle next talking about the Horsemen jumping him but he vows that won't happen ever again. Garvin then promises some risky business is coming.

MX looks great as usual while Cornette does commentary off and on.

Arn & Tully join Bob Caudle next for a promo with Arn again talking about wanting some gold around his waist as Nikita is overlooking him. Arn basically then says that Ronnie Garvin was scared to help Barry because of his broken hand months earlier. Tully then takes his shots at Dusty Rhodes as usual.

Good win for Brad.

Vladimir Petrov vs. Tony Zane (1/5/87)

Petrov starts pounding on Zane before Ivan Koloff jumps in the ring and attacks Tommy Young for the DQ. Ivan & Petrov then double up on Zane and leave with the locker room running out to check on Zane. Very odd finish considering Petrov beat 3 men on Pro that same day.

Jimmy Garvin & Precious join Bob Caudle next talking about 1987 being his year and that the Armstrongs are scared of him & Bill Dundee.

"Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff vs. David Isley (1/5/87)

Nikita wins with the Russian Sickle in seconds.

The Super Powers are with Bob Caudle next and they talk about Vladimir Petrov coming in and that they aren't scared of him.

Then we get a Flair promo from TBS which was great.

"Hands of Stone" Ronnie Garvin & Barry Windham vs. The Thunderfeet I & II (1/5/87)

Schiavone brings up how the masked men were Central States Tag Champs recently and this gets some time so they weren't made to look like complete jobbers. Tony also talks about how Tony Zane was sent to the hospital due to his injuries by Petrov.

Ragin & Ravishing along with Paul Jones join Bob Caudle next for a promo talking about how they dominate the tag division and will beat anyone that comes their way.

The RnR join Bob Caudle next talking about how they want rematches against Ragin & Ravishing because they will get their titles back soon.

Ragin & Ravishing (Manny Fernandez & Rick Rude) vs. Bill & Randy Mulkey (1/5/87)

The champs steamroll Mulkeymania and then after the match they brawl with the RnR as the show goes off the air.

World Championship Wrestling 1/10/87

This starts with the RnR Express with Tony who say again that it won't be long before they get the belts back.

"Gorgeous' Jimmy Garvin vs. Keith Vincent (1/10/87)

Vincent is a muscled up jobber making his debut and Garvin really works him over before dropping him with the Brainbuster.

Bill Dundee is out next with his newly won Central States Heavyweight Title and now he that has a title people finally want to wrestle him now. Dundee brags about sending Sam Houston running away which he did to the UWF.

Next we get a promo from the 1/10 NWA Pro show with Cornette and his boys talking about how Bubba was the real Bunkhouse Stampede champion but Tony & Jim Crockett both tell him that Dusty has tied with Bubba and they will have a final match between Dusty & Bubba to determine the real winner in a Steel Cage on 2/27 in Pittsburgh.

Tommy Angel making his debut here and a new TBS jobber legend is born. Brad looks good here as well.

Ronnie Garvin & Barry Windham are out later talking about their issues with the Horsemen & MX but they are the champs and they aren't worried. We get clips of the beatdown from the previous week and Windham said that he probably asked for that but it won't happen again.

"Superstar" Bill Dundee vs. Randy Barber (1/10/87)

The fans chant "WE WANT SAM" but he isn't coming back any time soon. Dundee is really fun here doing total Memphis heel schtick in this match.

Cornette & Bubba are out next talking about how the MX aren't there today but they would be in Philly that night to take out the Roadies in the Skywalkers match.

Dusty is out next talking about his match down the road with Bubba in the cage match in Pittsburgh. Dusty also gets shots in on Ole & Flair.

The $10,000 is also on the line and Tully retains both very easily.

Total destruction with Aaron not tucking his head on a bodyslam and almost getting his neck broke then Isley making Hawk wiff on a dropkick and getting stiffed to the beejeezus by both Roadies. They join Tony after the match with Hawk saying that he is sick of wrestling slugs and Animal wants Ragin & Ravishing.

Mulkeymania has no chance here and are brutalized by Mr. Torture.

Murdoch toys with Chase before putting him away with the Brainbuster.

Windham wins this quickly.

Bob Caudle talks to Ronnie Garvin after the match who talks about the Horsemen can't do anything by themselves but Garvin and his friends are ready for action. Garvin also sends a warning to Jim Cornette.

Then we get clips of Petrov destroying Tony Zane from last week.

Cornette and his boys join Bob Caudle next talking about how the promotion is conspiring against them to keep them from getting titles and Bubba winning the Stampede.

Ric Flair cuts a promo next with Bob Caudle wearing his Lakers Starter jacket talking about how he can't wait for Dusty Rhodes to lose to Big Bubba Rogers at the Bunkhouse Stampede finals and he would pay $25,000 to Bubba for beating him.

Flair then comes back out with Arn, Tully, & JJ talking about all their current issues.

Bubba getting singles matches now is great and he just squashes Deaton.

Dusty joins Bob Caudle next for a promo saying that he wants Petrov first because Nikita is his own man and if Ivan wants to blame anyone blame Dusty. This ends up with Dusty singing the Seven Dwarfs song in honor of Arn Anderson following Snow White....Extra material.

Garvin gets the KO victory naturally.

Then we get a promo from Garvin for the 2/21 show in Philly.

Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, & "Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. Denny Brown, Hector Guerrero, & "White Lightning" Tim Horner (1/13/87)

This is a cool little matchup and I loved seeing the Horsemen in trios matches. Barry Windham watches from afar as the Horsemen are tested early on by the spunky babyfaces. This is really fun at the start as the Horsemen are bumping all over for the babyfaces but they catch Denny who submits to Flair's Figure-Four Leglock. Flair refuses to break the hold until Windham runs to the ring where he decks Flair and they have an impromptu match.

Barry Windham vs. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair (1/13/87)

This turns into basically a lumberjack match as Dusty and RnR come out to counter the Horsemen as Windham takes it to Flair. This is extremely fun and a great setup to the match that will take place the next week. Slam Dunk Extra material to me.

World Championship Wrestling 1/17/87

Dusty comes out to start the show talking about Ivan Koloff & Vladimir Petrov and said that Nikita chose freedom and don't come for Nikita but come for him since he was responsible for it. Dusty said that he wants Petrov on TV later.

Ragin & Ravishing (Manny Fernandez & Rick Rude) vs. Rocky King & Bill Tabb (1/17/87)

Rocky gets frisky early on Manny but he will pay for that along with Tabb. The champs also cut a promo with Paul Jone afterwards saying that the RnR Express lose every time they face them. They want the Roadies next.

Windham is out next for a promo talking about sticking his nose in Horsemen business and that he was protecting his friends and we get clips from the 1/17 episode of World Wide where Windham beat Flair down to set up the match the next week. Extra material.

Flair is out next for a promo about what was just shown and he said that he is still the champion no matter what happened so he is the true winner. Flair is awesome here. Extra material.

Easy win for the Jayhawks.

Lex Luger makes his debut next joining David & Tony for a promo where Luger talks about his ALLOCADES and he said that he is The Total Package. Luger said that he wants to be elite and he wants to be a Horseman....Extra material.

Barry Windham vs. Thunderfoot #2 (1/17/87)

Windham looks good here and then goes to David & Tony afterwards saying that Luger is his friend and he doesn't want to be a Horseman.

JJ Dillon comes out next with Tully & The Andersons talking about Windham and Ole actually gets to talk and he said the Horsemen are truly united.

The grizzled vets take care of the jobbers fairly easily.

The Roadies are out next wearing their spikes and jeans which is always a great look. Hawk calls everyone slugs again.

Total squash and then Ivan cuts another promo afterwards saying that Dusty is the focus of his obsession.

Dillon is out next and said that he was kind of flattered that Luger wants to be a Horsemen but he said that there is no room for him right now but he would be scouting him.

"The Total Package" Lex Luger vs. George South (1/17/87)

Luger is very impressive here and he goes back to Tony afterwards talking about his ALLOCADES when Windham comes out and he said that Luger doesn't want to be a Horseman. Luger said that they are friends but now this is business here and Luger wants to make the big money. Luger's gimmick here is pretty much a shoot. Extra material.

"White Lightning" Tim Horner vs. Thunderfoot (1/17/87)

Horner looks damn good here.

Valiant comes out next wearing a teal colored Coca-Cola sweatshirt which was awesome. Valiant then wants to present Tony with a key to NYC but it's the key to his house and he kisses Tony. Hilarious.

Another strong showing for Brad.

The Super Powers are out next for a promo with Nikita wearing a Weasel Slapper shirt in honor of the Roadies and he sends warnings out to Flair, Ivan, & Vladimir. Dusty then said it's a shame that Luger wants to be a Horseman but Dusty said that he has been on over 230 magazine covers in his life so he has a long way to go. Extra material.

Flair is back out next talking about how 10 kids could live in one of his lizard shoes then he talks about Dusty & Luger with Flair saying that it's up to Dillon on whether Luger is a Horseman or not. Extra material.

NWA World TV Title: Tully Blanchard © vs. Randy Mulkey (1/17/87)

The $10,000 is on the line again and it's safe although Mulkey tried to jump Tully from behind to start which only pissed him off. Flair & Arn then go to ringside to watch with Dillon as Tully tees off on Mulkey.

Then we get a great promo from the Horsemen afterwards with Arn & Tully talking mad shit. Extra material.

World Wide Wrestling 1/24/87

This whole show is dedicated to Flair vs. Windham but we also get clips of Luger's debut the week before on TBS.

Bob Caudle & Jim Crockett then interview Nikita Koloff in the locker room about the upcoming match.

NWA World Heavyweight Title: "Nature Boy" Ric Flair © vs. Barry Windham (1/20/87)

This was taped in Fayetteville, North Carolina and Dusty is doing color with Tony Schiavone. Flair shakes Windham's hand before the match in an odd sign of sportsmanship at this stage of his career. The crowd is molten already at a minute into the match as they have done a great job at building Barry up the past few weeks on TV. Windham was awesome at this stage of his career as he was just so fluid in the ring and was so agile for a man his size plus he was a great worker. Flair of course was Flair and Windham seemed like one of the easiest opponents he ever worked with. Windham would dominate the early part of the match and Flair the middle and both men looked great in everything they did. The last few minutes of this was great stuff with it looking like Windham was going to take the title and almost had Flair when the bell rang for the draw. It's too bad that the two best matches of their series was cut up either by commercial breaks like this one or edited on a commercial release. Dusty also was tremendous on color as he put over Windham, Flair, & JCP hard which in his spot as the booker was what he was supposed to do. This was a fantastic match and a slam dunk nomination.
