Brad & Bob Armstrong vs. The New Breed

- This is the Armstrongs I think Phil saw in the Mid South set where they hook on an armbar or a headlock and don't do anything with it. Well, you would hope that with the Armstrongs classic stylings and the New Breed's high-end offense that the two styles would mesh well. Well, when the Armstrongs are on offense, the match is painfully dull. When the NEw Breed is on offense, they at least keep it interesting. The match ends up in a draw and while it picked up at the end, there are WAY too many awesome tags that will make the set to include this.

Midnight Express vs. Rock N Roll Express (15:45)

- Nothing much going on in the early part. However, Gibson trying to rip out Stan Lan'e arm from his socket was pretty cool as Lane collided with Eaton. Most of the match is spent with Lane and Eaton bumping and selling for the RNR. Later on, Gibson plays FIP and the MX take over and even though they have only been tagging with each other for a couple of months, the MX is looking fluid but not really working together. It appears like they are each working a different match even though this is pretty damn good. Just an observation. Screwy ending as we are accustomed to but this is probably the best match I have seen the RNR have with Lane/Eaton.

Tully Blanchard vs. Robert Gibson (12:17) (5:52) (18:19)

- Story here has Gibson holding on to Tully's arm for dear life. However, after a pin attempt, Tully rubs Gobert's face into the ropes and gains the advantage. Tully, scrapes, kicks, elbows and just abuses Gibson for awhile. The end stretch is pretty hot with Gibson reversing or dodging Tully offense only to attempt a pin or hold but Tully escaping. They end up doing the hiptoss ref bump and JJ and Morton get involved. Flair also gwets involved and they injure Ricky Morton. I don't know how far this match will go but it is worth a look at the very least.

Crowd is really into the match. The Armstrong's shine is pretty pedestrian. They're working spots around the arm, but the actual work on the arm is ho hum. Still the crowd makes up for the work because they're into it. New Breed's heat is pretty fun. I thought the match built to a lot of fun with a good angle post match. Low-End Nomination.

Rock N Roll Express vs Midnight Express

This feels like a solid nomination to me. The match starts with a real struggle early. Both teams fighting for the advantage. It eventually morphs into a Rock N Roll shine segment. Gibson's arm work is pretty gritty. I loved the whirlly bird attempted tag by Lane. A lot of quick tags in and out by the Rock N Roll. Eaton eventually nails Gibson with a belly to Back to gain control. It's a heat segment time and the MX focus on Gibson's neck since he's FIP. This was good too. They build to a finish. Overall another good match between the teams.

Robert Gibson vs Tully Blanchard

I give this a solid nomination. Tully was great here just cheap shotting the hell out of Gibson and selling all of his offense. The crowd was hot. Their was some real nice near falls here. It was all action. As far as screw job finishes go this was pretty good.

World Championship Wrestling 4/18/87

David & Tony start the show talking about Magnum TA returning at the Crockett Cup which was won by The Super Powers and that there will be a US Tag Titles Tournament starting next week.

As the weeks go on, Eaton & Lane are becoming more cohesive as a team and look strong here. Cornette is also amazing on commentary.

After the match, Cornette has his boys together and he said that a long-time associate of his needed Bubba's services somewhere and he was sending him away. This was Skandor Akbar and the place was the UWF. Extra material.

Total squash.

Next we get promos from Ole Anderson & Tim Horner about their vendetta against the Horsemen.

Then we get a promo from the Russians who want revenge against the Super Powers for Murdoch being suspended.

Easy win for Brad and Bullet Bob joins Brad for a promo after the match talking about how they are coming for titles.

"Hands of Stone" Ronnie Garvin vs. Tiny Beason (4/18/87)

Beason is far from tiny although Garvin goes into Mr. Torture mode and shrinks him before KOing him. Garvin slaps this guy's belly and pretends to ride him like a bull slapping his ass....

Roadies have no mercy here then we get a promo where Hawk said that the Surgeon General called them up and thanked them for all the patients.

Another easy win for Luger with some fan yelling at him as he poses that he isn't Hulk Hogan. Luger & Dillon then cut a promo afterwards about the Crockett Cup and how everyone must move on now with Luger wanting the US Title.

The New Breed (Chris Champion & Sean Royal) vs. Chance McQuade & Larry Stephens (4/18/87)

Another impressive showing for the New Breed then we get a promo with Royal impersonating Hawk saying that they do their talking in the ring. They want the RnR Express and Jimmy Valiant. Champion talks about being from 2002 to save wrestling.

Ole Anderson & "White Lightning" Tim Horner vs. Vernon Deaton & Bill Tabb (4/18/87)

Ole & Horner are coming together nicely and these jobbers have to deal with it.

Nikita is out next holding his neckbrace talking about winning the Crockett Cup and his unfinished business with the Russians and Luger.

Flair is out next in his full gear as he is wrestling later saying that Jimmy Garvin is hiding Precious from him and Flair said that must now eliminate Garvin to get her. Flair then talks about beating up Brad in Los Angeles and how the Horsemen are going to run wild in Daytona.

Arn Anderson vs. Italian Stallion (4/18/87)

Arn enjoyed that promo then went to another level to beat down the Stallion. Arn then cuts a promo at ringside with David talking about coming for Barry Windham. Arn then talks about what it's like being him and this is a tremendous promo. Extra material.

Flair looked really good here and calls on Precious throughout.

Then we get clips of the Crockett Cup.

Tron gets a good win here and the fans are behind him. He then joins Valiant for a promo afterwards talking about the New Breed. Valiant is especially fun here talking about all the genres of music has been through.

Garvin wins with the Brainbuster in seconds and cuts a promo afterwards talking about being fully focused on Flair.

Barbarian wins easily.

The show starts with Flair, Luger, & Dillon standing with David & Tony at ringside talking about how great they are wrestling and with the women.

FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT TO PARTY!!!!!!!!!!! and it's amazing to me to think that Dusty wanted these guys as heels as they were screaming babyface with their work and their style. After the match, they cut a promo on going after the RnR Express, Valiant, & Lazer-Tron and the fans were giving them shit though for wanting to face the RnR.

Tully & Dillon join Bob Caudle next talking about defending the TV Title and $10,000 every week and he wants everybody.

RnR win very quickly with the Double Dropkick.

South gives Brad a quick go but Brad wins with the RUssian Legsweep.

RnR Express are out next with Caudle talking about they were upset that injuries cost them the chance to win the Crockett Cup but they watched the Super Powers beat Ragin & Ravishing and they know the way to win the titles now.

Lazer-Tron's music was always a trip to me and the faces win easily.

Nikita is out next for a promo about Luger wanting the US Title.

"Total Package" Lex Luger vs. Jeff Belk (5/2/87)

Another strong win for Luger and this Jeff Belk is a jacked up dude. Luger got Belk for the Torture Rack but couldn't hold on as he fell forward into the ropes and just pinned him in a total botched spot.

Next we get the debut of the Dusty Rhodes video to Can't Judge A Book By It's Cover.

Ronnie Garvin is out next for a promo talking about how he can't wait to get Cornette in a cage because he is going to put him away. Cornette then comes out and Garvin chokes him with his towel until the MX run out to attack him which brings out Barry Windham to make the save and they almost tear the set up. This was a red hot angle and a definite extra as this was like a Memphis angle.

US Tag Titles Tournament - Quarterfinals: Bob & Brad Armstrong vs. The New Breed (Chris Champion & Sean Royal) (5/2/87)

This is a fun looking match on paper for sure. Armstrongs dominate early using their experience as well as agility to keep the New Breed grounded with the Breed doing a good job of bumping and selling for them. Royal would catch Brad with a knee to the back from the apron and that started the New Breed offensive barrage and they worked Brad over good with the fans cheering him on to get the tag. Champion hits his awesome diving axehandle from the top to the floor on Brad that left David & Tony speechless. Brad is so good here with his hope spots and the blind tag was well done as everyone was going nuts. Bob would finally get the hot tag and he ran wild on the heels using his karate blows before Brad joined him until the time ran out for a draw. The Breed then destroyed Brad until Bob made the save. This was a damn good TV match and moves forward as a fairly easy nomination.

Then we get the Flair video that you would see for months and months.

This Sampson guy is another jacked up dude but the Russians are way too dominant and they cut a promo afterwards about embarrassing Nikita.

The MX is pissed and they kill these guys as Cornette rants and raves on commentary. After the match, Cornette talks about how the RnR will face the MX next week on TV in the US Tag Titles tournament. Cornette then reads a letter from Jim & Tammy Faye Bakker in support of him. Extra material.

Angel actually gets some offense in on Windham but that doesn't last too long before he eats a Lariat.

America's Team comes out next with Magnum making his return to TV and Dusty is holding a paper bag full of money and makes a big challenge to Tully Blanchard to put up or shut up. This is a tremendous segment and a slam dunk extra.

Tully & Dillon come out next for a retort saying that Dusty was trying to steal Magnum's spotlight and Dillon has a briefcase talking about how Tully calls the shots not Dusty. Tully says it would be a cold day in hell before he wrestled him on TV. Extra material.

The fans are dancing to Beastie Boys as the Breed enter the ring and sing along.....Dusty booked these guys as heels.....amazing but they were good heels in the ring and were impressive here.

US Tag Titles Tournament - Semifinals: The Midnight Express ("Beautiful" Bobby Eaton & "Sweet" Stan Lane) vs. The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) (5/9/87)

This rivalry is reborn now with Stan Lane involved. Lane being involved means we get even more crazy bumps from the MX and they pinball all over the place for the RnR. Morton did this insane tope suicida to the floor on Eaton which could've been a disaster if he hit the concrete. RnR are just on fire here before Gibson would get caught and Eaton nuked him with the Alabama Jam. Gibson does fine as FIP but not as dynamic as Morton who got the hot tag and ran wild before it turned into a 4-way brawl. Lane ate a Double Dropkick then Eaton who crashed into Teddy Long. Gibson & Eaton brawl on the floor as Scrappy McGowan counts out Lane but Teddy Long said that Lane's foot was on the rope which it was then Morton backdropped Lane over the top rope for the DQ. Way too cute of a finish but this was a strong TV match and is a fairly easy nomination.

"Capt. Redneck" Dick Murdoch vs. Cougar Jay (5/9/87)

Well Murdoch is back from his suspension aka New Japan tour and he destroys Jay.

Then we get clips of the Russians calling out The Super Powers from the 5/9 episode of World Wide and Dusty brawls with them by himself until Murdoch runs out to make it 3-on-1 before Garvin & Windham make the save. Murdoch cuts a promo with his comrades afterwards before the faces run over for a brawl. Extra material.

"Hands of Stone" Ronnie Garvin vs. Mike Force (5/9/87)

I love how they took a break right before they locked up. Garvin steamrolls this poor guy.

New Breed come out next for a promo talking about the RnR Express and they show clips of a battle they had with Lazer-Tron & Valiant from the 5/9 episode of NWA Pro.

Good win for the Bullet.

McQuade tries but fails very quickly and then Nikita cuts a promo on Murdoch coming back trying to injure Dusty and he is coming for revenge.

Paul Jones is out next with Ragin & Ravishing for a promo talking about the RnR Express losing earlier and how the Roadies want the belts but won't get them. Bull then says that they quit working on TV because they don't need to.

The Road Warriors (Animal & Hawk) vs. The Shadow & Bill Tabb (5/9/87)

As this destruction is going on, Paul Jones comes out and gets in Ellering's face which leads to Ragin & Ravishing coming out to attack him before the Roadies ran them off. Hawk then cuts an angry promo vowing revenge. Extra material.

NWA Pro Wrestling 5/16/87

Arn Anderson vs. Jeff Sampson (5/12/87)

Sampson stuck around longer than Jeff Belk but he still wasn't very good and eats a Gourdbuster for his trouble. Arn talks to Caudle after the match about hurting people and that Ole is the latest one on the list so now he is focusing on Nikita Koloff.

Dusty joins Tony next talking about his challenge from last week and he said that Tully was going to lose his TV title to Robert Gibson later in the show.

NWA World TV Title: Tully Blanchard © vs. Robert Gibson (5/12/87)

The $10,000 is also on the line here of course and this is a fresh matchup. Gibson has the advantage early on Tully keeping him grounded on the mat for a while. Dillon would get involved giving Tully a chance to get over on Gibson but it still doesn't work as Tully has to go to the floor to regroup. Tully still is at the mercy of Gibson once back in the ring but a knee to the gut and a neckbreaker allows Tully to take over. Tully ramps up the intensity as he takes it to the floor where he slams Gibson neck first on the rail which pisses off Morton and allows Dillon to punch Gibson. Tully would get slammed off the top rope and Gibson is back in the match giving everything he had to Tully who is good at taking the punishment and surviving. Gibson would hip toss Tully right into Tommy Young who went to the floor then Gibson would get a pinfall on Tully with Morton making the count. Morton & Dillon then brawl in the ring as Gibson backdropped Tully over the top rope for a DQ. Flair then ran into the ring to brawl with Morton and he posted him with the fans going nuts. Flair then drops a knee off the top rope and the beatdown continues with Flair getting the Figure-Four until Gibson runs them off with a chair. This was a pretty solid match and a very hot angle afterwards puts this over the top for a nomination.

Next we get a promo from Ivan for the 5/30 show in Philly.

Flair then joins Tony after the match saying that Summer was coming and the Horsemen were going to take care of everyone in their way. Flair then said that he was God and that if people want to believe in something they should believe in him. Definite extra.
