Posted January 16, 200817 yr comment_5427182 August – September 1987 Disc 1 Pro Mod Squad vs. Italian Stallion & Denny Brown Ric Flair Interview Ivan Koloff vs. Kendall Windham - Doesn't get far before Paul Jones interferes and Barry saves. Barry & Kendall Windham Interview Ron Garvin Interview Lex Luger Interview Nikita Koloff vs. Tully Blanchard (8/17/87) - Man, Tully Blanchard is awesome. He bumps like a pinball for Nikita's power moves. While Nikita has him in the resthols, Tully is constantly squirming, moving, trying to find ways to escape. Tully turns the tide after he ducks the Sickle and Nikita goes flying over the top rope. Cool visual. His control doesn't last long but JJ distracts the referee long enough for Tully to recover from a Sickle that connects. Nikita's eagerness to end it again costs him as Tully uses Nikita's momentum to toss him outside again. The end stretch was pretty great as Tully can never hit a move to take control but Nikita can't seem to find a way to put Tully away as he throws everything out there including a flying shoulder block and even a figure four. The end was helter skelter as Tully knocks Nikita out with some brass knux. Barry WIndham comes flying in to stop the count which leads to Arn Anderson coming out. This allows Nikita enough time to grab the Brass Knux and knock Tully out for the pin and the title. The crowd goes batshit for the win but they were pretty amped the entire time. This is just about as good as any Nikita singles match you'll ever find. Definite Nomination. WCW Lex Luger vs. Cougar Jay Lex Luger & JJ Dillon Interview Jimmy Garvin vs. John Savage Jimmy Garvin Interview Nikita Koloff vs. Tully Blanchard (JIP) (Same as above) Dusty Rhodes Interview (Great Dusty Interview) Mod Squad vs. Italian Stallion & Kendall Windham Mod Squad Interview Jimmy Valiant vs. Tim Hardy Four Horsemen Interview Barbarian vs. Rocky King Disc 2 Ronnie Garvin Interview Mike Jackson vs. Denny Brown WCW Barry & Kendall Windham Interview Nikita Koloff vs. Alan Martin Nikita Koloff Interview Lex Luger vs. Keith Steinborn Lex Luger & JJ Dillon Interview Tully Blanchard vs. Ed Franks Arn Anderson vs. Mike Jackson - Jackson brings it to Arn in a nice little 7 minute match. Four Horsemen Interview Dusty Rhodes Interview (w/ Teijo Khan footage) (Hyping up the Weaver Lock) Ron Garvin Interview Ron Garvin vs. Terry Jones Ron Garvin vs. Arn Anderson (JIP; Pro Recap) Ric Flair Interview Midnight Express vs. Barry & Kendall Windham - Doesn't last long before Cornette hits Kendall with the racquet on the outside but Nikita comes down and saves and the match is thrown out. Jim Cornette Interview WCW Sean Royal vs. Alan Martin Nikita Koloff vs. Bobby Eaton - Nikita is working the headlock early on and I am disappointed because there is no display of strength that allows Bobby to bounce around. There is no moving, struggling, interaction going on the same way there was in the Tully match. When they pick up the pace, Bobby does hit him wiht a pretty nice clothesline to gain a temporary breather. When Bobby chooses to work a headlock, it remains painfully dull with very little action. Really disappointing match that ends with Stan Lane hitting Nikita with a raqcuet and Dusty coming in and knocking Bobby out with the weaverlock. No vote. Dusty, Nikita & Magnum TA Interview Terry Taylor Clip Ric Flair Interview Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson Interview Disc 3 Missy Hyatt Interview Barry Windham vs. Arn Anderson - This is for the Western Heritage Title and so much better than their Supertowns match. Arn starts early, showing his genius by claiming Barry had grease on his body after barry used Arn's momentum to fling him out of the ring. This has some cool matwork sections, great selling, a heated crowd and some cool spots including Barry lifting Arn while Arn has a leg grapevine applied and ramming Arn into the ringpost. In the end, this goes to a draw but Arn is pissed he didn't win the title and lays out Barry. Good, solid nomination. Sting vs.??? Stan Lane vs. Mike Jackson Barbarian vs. Colt Steele Barry Windham vs. Lex Luger - This starts out with Barry shining and outsmarting Luger. The rest of the amtch was a nice back and forth where no spots really stood out but whre you were still interested in who would get the upper-hand. This has a bad ending as Windham is tripped up and Luger kind of stumbles onto him and then drops an elbow. A ref runs in to stop Tommy Young from counting the 3-count and Arn Anderson comes in and attacks Barry. I'll give this a low-level nomination but there are so many better matches out there. Lex Luger Post Match Interview Ivan Koloff vs. George South Ronnie Garvin Training Video (EXTRA) Jimmy Valiant vs. Tommy Angel Dusty Rhodes Interview Dusty & Nikita-Horsemen Staredown (Possible Extra) Sean Royal Promo Jimmy Garvin vs. John Savage Nikita Koloff vs. David Isley Eddie Gilbert/Terry Taylor Promo Nikita Koloff Interview Ric Flair Interview Rock N Roll Express vs. Tully Blanchard & Arn Anderson (No DQ) (5:32)(5:46)(6:50)(4:59)(5:16) - Gibson has a haircut here. Maybe this is when the RNR lost their mojo. The first ten minutes are wrestled pretty straight up with the RNR getting the shine. The first tease of a No DQ match came when Morton brought a chair into the ring but didn't actually use it. The RNR keep control of the match until Gibson does his Mid South tumble over the top rope. However, at this point, the most these guys have taken advantage of the No DQ is to choke each other on the rail outside. As a straight tag, this was pretty good. As a No DQ match, thissucked. It seems like everyone forgot that they could cheat and use foreign objects. WHy in the hell was Arn Anderson hidng a rope to choke Gibson? The end sucked too. Similar to the Luger match, Young counts the three but another ref comes in and the match is restarted this time. Fuck, pick a different ending! The only justification for the pin being reversed was that the wrong man might have made the pin. After the restart, all 4 guys brawl outside I am guessing for a double countout in the No Dq match. Fuck, I am torn here. I'll nominate it because the match was pretty damn good... until you consider the No DQ stip. If you take that into consideration, it made no fucking sense. / Rock N Roll Express Interview
February 5, 20169 yr comment_5725582 Disc 1 Nikita Koloff vs Tully Blanchard Easily one of Nikita's best matches ever. Thank you Tully Blanchard by making him look like a million bucks. I loved Nikita's headbutts to the arm. The whole match worked. A solid nomination. Disc 2 Nikita Koloff vs Bobby Eaton This is better than their match from The Bunkhouse in 1988. I'm nominating it, but not sure if it will go far. The studio was super hot for this. Both guys used headlocks and worked spots around it. With help from the crowd it had a neat energy to it. If the crowd wasn't so good I don't think I'd nominate it. Though the style of match really captured the working style of JCP. We do get a fun post match tacked on for good measure. Disc 3 Barry Windham vs Arn Andrson This looks like a solid nomination. This is a nice give and take match with both guys looking good. This is just textbook . It had good storytelling , strong selling, fun bumps, and great payoffs to the work. Barry Windham vs Lex Luger This looks like a solid nomination. This is a nice give and take match with both guys looking good. This is just textbook . It had good storytelling , strong selling, fun bumps, and great payoffs to the work. Rock n Roll Express vs Tully and Arn I remember watching this a while ago, and was dumfounded at some of the stuff that was going on. It's a shame because the wrestlers got a ton of time in the ring to have a match. Also, this had some of the worst commercial breaks ever.
March 6, 20178 yr comment_5790665 NWA Pro Wrestling 8/29/87The Mod Squad (Basher & Spike) vs. Denny Brown & Italian Stallion (8/12/87)This was JIP as Caudle & Weaver did the intro as the match was going on and the Squad got tested but were too much for their opponents.Flair is with Tony next talking about how great he is and how Ronnie Garvin can't beat him for his title."Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff vs. Kendall Windham (8/12/87)Kendall gives Ivan some fits early on but with help from Paul Jones he got finished off with the Russian Sickle. The heels then continued to pound on Kendall after the match until Barry made the save. The Windhams joined Bob after the match and Barry said that he doesn't want to interfere in Kendall's matches but he had to help him out there. Barry then said that he would defend his Western States Title against all challengers especially Arn Anderson.Ronnie Garvin joins Tony next for a promo talking about how he knows he has Flair frustrated and that he thinks he will beat him for the NWA Title very soon.Luger joins Tony next talking about Dusty putting him to sleep in the locker room and Luger said that he would get his revenge then sent a warning to Johnny Weaver to mind his business. Luger then declared himself the greatest US Champ ever.NWA World TV Title: Tully Blanchard © vs. "Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff (8/19/87)Nikita really works over Tully's left arm early and Tully is very good at selling everything going on. Tully was also bumping like crazy for Nikita as well which was what you needed to make Nikita look like a beast. Tully would get a huge break as he ducked a Russian Sickle and Nikita went flying over the top rope to the floor which allowed Tully to get some offense but Nikita caught him with another Sickle but Dillon had Earl Hebner distracted and he couldn't get there quick enough. Tully though would go back on offense and he has Nikita weakened but the fans are trying to will Nikita back up. Nikita fights back eventually and Tully is definitely reeling but he kicks at Nikita's knee which stops him a little althogh not enough as Nikita has Tully down but he can't put him away. Nikita would give Tully an atomic drop into Hebner then Dillon tries to get involved but Nikita took care of him. Nikita then picked up Tully for a backdrop suplex then he hit Hebner so Arn Anderson runs out and hands Tully a foreign object which he used to knock Nikita down but not out because Barry Windham runs out and tells Hebner that Arn gave him a weapon. Windham & Tully start fighting and Nikita hits Dillon & Tully with the object to win the title. The babyfaces ran out to celebrate with Nikita afterwards. Wild finish to a damn good match ahd this is a fairly easy nomination.World Championship Wrestling 8/29/87"Total Package" Lex Luger vs. Cougar Jay (8/29/87)Luger systematically picked apart Jay before using the Torture Rack to win. Dillon & Luger then cut a promo afterwards about Dusty and his Weaver Lock which they say is illegal. Luger is really great here is an arrogant prick."Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin vs. John Savage (8/29/87)Garvin wins easily then cuts a promo afterwards with Precious about what's going on and quotes Aretha Franklin. Then we get clips of Nikita beating Tully for the TV Title.Dusty then cuts a promo about being happy with Nikita winning the TV Title and then tees off Luger in a really good promo. Dusty lays on the ring apron at one point. Extra material. The Mod Squad (Basher & Spike) vs. Italian Stallion & Kendall Windham (8/29/87)Pretty good TV tag match here with both teams working hard and at a good pace. There was nothing dynamic going on but everything was at least decent. Tony telegraphs halfway through the match that this is going to a draw which they did naturally. Squad then beat Stallion down afterwards for good measure though and then told Tony that they were going to do that to everyone until they got a shot at the RnR."Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant vs. Tim Hardy (8/29/87)Standard Valiant squash. Then we get a Horsemen promo from World Wide. The Barbarian vs. Rocky King (8/29/87)Rocky puts a valiant fight but he gets destroyed.Next we get a promo from Ronnie Garvin from World Wide where he talks about closing down Space Mountain.Denny Brown vs. Mike Jackson (8/29/87)Another really fun back and forth match which again on some other sets would be a nomination. The finish was cool as Mike hit a German Suplex but Denny got his shoulder up to win.Sean Royal vs. Larry Stephens (8/29/87)Royal handles his business fairly easily here then cuts a promo afterwards where Royal admits that Chris Champion was injured in a car wreck but he said that Champion will be back in one month which popped the crowd.Next we get clips of RnR winning a squash on World wide then getting jumped by Arn & Tully afterwards with Dillon cutting a promo about how they are coming hard for the NWA World Tag Titles."Ragin Bull" Manny Fernandez vs. Ricky Nelson (8/29/87)Bull just puts on a clinic here on Nelson.Paul Jones cuts a promo afterwards about his newest charge that is coming in a couple of weeks that will be a force to reckon with.World Championship Wrestling 9/5/87The Windham Brothers start the show talking about how they are getting a shot at the US Tag Titles later in the show and they are ready.NWA World TV Title: "Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff © vs. Alan Martin (9/2/87)Nikita is now the champ and he retains his title with ease then cuts a promo after the match saying he would defend against anyone at anytime then talks about how the Horsemen are going to fall."Total Package" Lex Luger vs. Keith Steinborn (9/2/87)Luger kills Steinborn and is a complete cocky asshole about it. Dillon & Luger then cuts a promo afterwards again about the Weaver Lock and it being illegal. I loved Luger getting the name of the WCW producer wrong as he called Tommy Edwards "Tommy Evans."Tully Blanchard vs. Ed Franks (9/2/87)Tully manhandles this guy."The Enforcer" Arn Anderson vs. Mike Jackson (9/2/87)Arn is wearing his AWESOME powder blue satin 4 Horsemen jacket before the match and shakes Jackson's hand which was nice. These two have had some really fun matches on TV and this one starts no different as Jackson gives Arn fits. Arn to go outside and regroup at one point because of how flustered he was. Arn would catch Jackson in the ribs and got some offense in but Jackson kept fighting back until Arn would chunk him hard to the floor. Mike comes back with a sunset flip off the apron but Arn punched him right in the face to break that up. Jackson tried fighting back again and ate a Spinebuster to end the match. Very fun little match but not a nomination then we get a promo from Arn & Tully afterwards about getting some championships. Flair & Luger would then show up at the end to top it off.Dusty comes out next for a promo and we get clips from World Wide where Teijho Khan wins a squash match then goes over to Dusty telling him to leave because he wants an interview so Dusty beats his ass and puts him out with the Weaver Lock. Dusty then makes fun of Luger for looking pretty. Extra material.Ronnie Garvin is out next for a promo about Flair saying that he wants to be where Flair has been. Garvin is really good and intense here. Extra material."Hands of Stone" Ronnie Garvin vs. Terry Jones (9/2/87)Garvin has no mercy on this man....and KO's him quick to win. Garvin then debuts the Garvin Stomp after the match...amazing.Next we get clips of Garvin vs. Arn from NWA Pro.Flair comes out next for a promo and he demands that Crockett talk about how the Horsemen dominated the babyfaces while Flair was wearing $600 lizard shoes. Flair is awesome here. Extra material.US Tag Titles: The Midnight Express ("Beautiful" Bobby Eaton & "Sweet" Stan Lane) vs. Barry & Kendall Windham (9/2/87)Windhams looked strong to start especially Barry who had really good chemistry with both of the MX at this time. We get a clip and now Kendall is in the ring getting worked over by the MX who were lighting him up good. Kendall got the hot tag to Barry Who ran wild before Cornette would use the racquet on Kendall on the floor. Nikita shows up and helps Barry in the ring take on the MX as the match gets thrown out. This was fun for what it was.Cornette then cuts an angry promo afterwards talking about Nikita getting involved and he is going to send his men after his TV Title now.World Championship Wrestling 9/12/87Jim Crockett starts the show talking about Starrcade & Bunkhouse Stampede will close out 1987 in a major way.Sean Royal vs. Alan Martin (9/9/87)Martin gets some offense in here even a version of a huracarana making this somewhat competitive and Tony talks about Royal's hair growing out. Royal wins though with the Bombs Away.NWA World TV Title: "Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff © vs. Bobby Eaton (9/9/87)There is actually dueling chants for this match at the start which was something. Lots of headlocks early on from Nikita and when they do some fast paced stuff it's pretty good but Nikita wants to stay on the mat. Eaton would catch Nikita with a big neckbreaker drop and sent Nikita to the floor giving Bobby a chance to regroup in the ring. Once Nikita was back in the ring Eaton would lock on a reverse chinlock but did hit a sweet missile dropkick off the middle rope for a nearfall. Nikita would make a comeback though teeing off on Eaton having him ready to be pinned but Cornette would get on the apron allowing Lane to hit Nikita with the racquet. Dusty would then run out and put the Weaver Lock on Eaton while Nikita chased off Lane. Disappointing match but a great angle at the end.The Super Powers cut a promo after the match talking about wanting their shot at the US Tag Titles since they beat them in the Crockett Cup. Magnum TA then walks out which pops the crowd and said that the US Tag Titles will be coming to the Super Powers soon.Next we get clips of Terry Taylor vs. Shane Douglas from UWF TV.Then we get clips of Arn vs. Garvin again with a promo from Flair & Dillon afterwards from NWA Pro.Next we get a taped promo from Gilbert & Taylor talking about Taylor getting his TV Title back.Tully Blanchard vs. Mike Force (9/9/87)Tully just mauls this guy.Dillon along with Arn & Tully cut a promo next about Dusty using the Weaver Lock and then wanting the NWA World Tag Titles which they say they are getting soon.Missy Hyatt makes her TBS debut here and she says that she doesn't think Windham can beat Arn Anderson.Western States Heavyweight Title: Barry Windham © vs. "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson (9/1/87)So Arn worked Ronnie Garvin & Barry Windham in singles matches on the same taping....awesome. This starts out slow with both men working holds but they kept it interesting as they were working in and out and not laying and praying. Both men also work the arm very well and I liked Windham using the Anderson armwork tactics against Arn. Windham would miss a big splash hitting all knees in the gut so Arn uses a bodyscissors among other things to weaken him further. Windham would break free but he tried a cross body block and flew over the top to the floor then Arn would bash Windham into the railing. Windham would recover and he focused on Arn's left leg wrapping it around the ringpost a couple of times then locked on the Figure-Four. Arn's leg issues would hinder him as he couldn't do anything because it would give out and Windham would go back to work on it immediately. Arn tries to walk out but Windham grabs him and brings him back to the ring as 3:00 is left in the match. There is a double collision with a minute left and both men now are very tired but they are still battling with Windham hitting a Superplex with 15 seconds left. Arn gets to the ropes though and we go to a draw right as Windham hits the Lariat. Arn would attack Barry after the match and gave him a Gourdbuster for his trouble. This was a really good match and a fairly easy nomination.Next we get a Sting squash from UWF TV."Sweet" Stan Lane vs. Mike Jackson (9/9/87)This is a cool matchup. Jackson gets some offense in but Lane is too much for him. Cornette then cuts a promo afterwards about the Super Powers.World Championship Wrestling 9/19/87The Barbarian vs. Colt Steele (9/13/87)JIP and Barbarian manhandles this guy.US Heavyweight Title: "Total Package" Lex Luger © vs. Barry Windham (9/13/87)Windham uses his agility and experience to fluster Luger early on and the fans were going nuts for Barry. Luger does a really good job here of stooging for Windham and you can tell he has definitely learned how to play this type of heel from his Horsemen brethren. The tide turned when Windham missed a big dropkick as Luger held the rope and now Luger goes to a power offensive game to weaken Windham. We go to a break and miss some action but Luger is still in control although Windham is fighting when he can to get it back. Windham gets a belly-to-belly to break free from a bearhug for a nearfall then comes firing back with shots until we get a double collision. Windham recovered first and went for a Figure-Four but Luger kicked out then hit him with a big suplex. Both men are feeling the effects of this battle as Windham hit a sloppy lariat then hit his big one foot dropkick off the top rope but Dillon pulled his leg so Windham jumped him on the floor. Arn runs out as Windham goes back in the ring then Arn would grab Windham's leg as he tried another lariat but Earl Hebner ran in the ring and told Tommy Young what happened so Barry won by DQ. Arn & Luger then jumped Windham with Windham getting put in the Torture Rack until the RnR made the save. Luger & Dillon then cut a promo afterwards about the situation. This was a pretty good match and it's enough for a low-end nomination."Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff vs. George South (9/13/87)South gets a spurt of offense in early but Ivan would take care of him easily after that.Next we get a training video for Ronnie Garvin and this is really good. Definite extra."Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant vs. Tommy Angel (9/13/87)This is JIP and Valiant has no problems here.Dusty is out next for a promo talking about how Windham got ripped off earlier and he wants a piece of Luger right now. Luger shows up with Arn holding him back as Dusty calls out his boys for backup which we see Nikita and Morton show up. Dusty then said that his guys will stand tall with him. Extra material. Then we get a promo from Sean Royal who said that CHris Champion is in 2002 getting full upgraded and will be back in 2 weeks."Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin vs. John Savage (9/13/87)Garvin squashes Savage and almost loses Savage on the Brainbuster.NWA World TV Title: "Russian Nightmare" Nikita Koloff © vs. David Isley (9/13/87)Nikita wins with the Sickle then cuts a promo on Eddie Gilbert/Terry Taylor after they show a taped promo from them talking about they want to see who the real TV champ is.Flair is out next for a promo about Garvin and how he still has to beat him not the other way around. Flair then cuts a promo on Taylor which was funny. No DQ Match for the NWA World Tag Titles: The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) © vs. Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard (9/13/87)This starts out slow but they pick it up as the RnR pound on the Horsemen who are great taking the punishment. Morton throws some good punches here and since it's no DQ he brings in a chair which sends Tully running and he throws him liberally over the top rope. The Horsemen get some offense in here but it's the RnR show at the moment with Tully taking the most punishment. Gibson would take some big bumps getting thrown over the top hard to the floor a couple of times and that turns the tide for the Horsemen. Gibson takes a real beating now and Morton does what he could to help Gibson but it's not enough. I loved the Horsemen yelling NO DQ at Tommy Young when they were cheating. We miss the fucking hot tag though which was terrible editing on their part and now Morton is in getting shots off on Arn but the Horsemen would soon double up on him until he tagged Gibson back in who was still tired from earlier so he was an easy target for the Horsemen. Gibson though getting his ass kicked kept fighting back every time the Horsemen thought they had him beat. Morton would get another hot tag and he cleaned house until Gibson joined in hitting Arn with the Double Dropkick. Morton has Arn pinned but Dillon throws Tully his shoe which he uses on Morton and Tully pins Morton with Tommy Young making the count. Earl Hebner runs out and tells Young what happened and Young said that the match must continue which was extremely stupid since this was no DQ. Both teams would soon battle to the floor for a double countout in a terrible finish. This was a tremendous match marred by a terrible finish. It's still a definite nomination though.RnR then cut a promo saying that they will be the champs forever.
