The match itself was pretty good with both guys dishing out punishment. Bass had a small cut so we got a little bit of blood out of it as well. I don't like the actual match as much as the Windham-Race match (that may change in the future) but this is an easy nomination and one of the better known Florida matches. (Lynch Florida Vol. 2.2)
May 16, 201312 yr comment_5544854 Florida Heavyweight Title vs. Saddle: Barry Windham © vs. Outlaw Ron Bass (11/15/83) This is a very famous match as Bass wanted a title shot and was forced to put up his treasured saddle that was given to Bass by Dusty's mother to get it. Windham looks so good here and Bass was very effective in his role here as the crafty heel who uses his roughhouse tactics to keep Windham at bay. I dug Bass picking up Windham for a suplex then sitting him on the top rope before suplexing him. Bass really works over Windham's back here inside and outside the ring and this is some really good action. Barry is now juicing after being beaten from pillar to post on the floor but makes a comeback hitting a desperation dropkick sending Bass to the floor where he repaid him from earlier as he bashed his head into the dressing room door twice. Bass is now juicing and Windham tees off on the cut as you can tell how important the stakes are here. Solie & Buddy Colt are also very solid in their commentary especially Colt who really sells how important this is. Both men are totally exhausted here as this is a war of atrition before Bass hits a backdrop suplex on Windham putting them both out before Bass finally rolls for a nearfall. They turn it into a complete slugfest next as they trade shots and moves before Windham hits a big lariat to get the pin. The studio goes nuts and Windham has a look of shock on his face before being awarded the saddle but Bass would attack him with help from One Man Gang then grabbed the saddle and put it on Barry before preceeding to ride him. Bass calls Windham a yellow dog afterwards in some foreshadowing of what was to come. Tremendous match and a post-match angle that is remembered 30 years later which seals the deal as a slam dunk nomination.
