Posted January 19, 200817 yr comment_5427354 Jimmy Snuka & Ray Stevens vs. Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood (NWA Mid Atlantic) - This is not the Maple Leaf match from AJ Classics. Early part of the match is Steamboat controlling and working spots out of the headlock. One great spot which was probably done a thousand times has Snuka leapfrogging Steamboat twice and when Snuka goes for the third leapfrog, Steamboat stops and chops. I was surprised at how little the heels controlled in this match but they bumped huge for the faces. Steamboat ends up getting tossed out of the ring and the heels keep preventing him from getting in. Snuka stomps on Steamboat's hand and Steamer sells it like death but he eventually comes in and gets the hot tag to Youngblood. Hot ending as it looks like the faces have it won with Steamboat press slamming Youngblood on Stevens but Snuka saves. Stevens and Snuka end up jumping on Jay's leg from the top rope and Jay is unable to continue. Still, this is one of the better Mid Atlantic studio bouts I have seen and a nomination. December 8, 201212 yr comment_5521947 This is a good studio bout. The leap frog spot Will mentions is awesome. Still the babyface team controls about 10 minutes of an 11 minute match. The angle at the end is pretty great. I would say no on a nomination, but could be extra material.
April 13, 201312 yr comment_5541984 NWA World Tag Titles: "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka & Ray "The Crippler" Stevens © vs. Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood (8/27/80) A very rare title match on TV and these guys are on fire here especially Snuka & Steamer. Stevens & Youngblood aren't loafing around either as they are working at a fast pace as well with the crowd loving every minute of this match. Both teams trade the advantage throughout here so you don't get any long sections and the match is really flowing. Steamboat & Youngblood hit their double team slam on Stevens for a nearfall before Snuka breaks it up then Stevens fires back with a kneebreaker. Snuka then jumps off the top rope on Youngblood's knee with Youngblood selling like he got shot with a gun. Steamer comes in and referee Stu Schwartz calls for the bell as Youngblood is too injured. The selling of this injury was very well done and the match itself was pretty damn good so I'm pushing this forward as a nomination. One of the better TV matches from JCP in this era.
