Posted January 25, 200817 yr comment_5427481 Nothing much match wise here, and really the only angle possibly worthy of inclusion is the angle of running a 1-900 number contest to pick the special referee for the Lawler v. Hennig match. I like the carnyness of trying to get people to spend money to get Jackie Fargo as ref. Especially amusing when they are running Ernest Angel as a heel televangelist.
January 25, 200817 yr comment_5427488 When Brickhouse announces that Brother Earnest Angel is missing the show due to illness, they start a "He's got AIDS chant" and Brickhouse's reaction and eventual milking of the chant is hysterical.
May 6, 200817 yr comment_5431101 Doug & Tommy Gilbert vs. Rikki Nelson & Scott Steiner (4/16/88) Squash. Lawler comes out to talk about his match with Curt Hennig on 5/9 and how the fans will pick the referee. Max Pain vs. Rodney Napper (4/16/88) Squash. Tom Brandi & Scotty the Body vs. The Cuban Assassins (4/16/88) Cubans are mauling these guys and get DQed. Next up is Quiet Time with Brother Ernest. Jeff Jarrett & Ken Wayne come out for a promo where Ken takes shots at Jeff for staying in Memphis among other things and they are supposed to be partners. Wayne is like a pseudo Dutch Mantell here as a babyface who “tells it like it is.” Jeff Jarrett, Billy Travis, & Ken Wayne vs. Terry Adonis, Brickhouse Brown, & Gary Young (4/16/88) The tension still is on as they go in the ring and Jarrett accidentally dropkicks Wayne early. The teamwork would improve and as Travis had Brick in an abdominable stretch, Brother Ernest hit him with the good book for the DQ. Max Pain & Gary Young vs. Alan Reynolds & Freezer Thompson (4/23/88) Squash. Jerry Jarrett comes out and announces that CWA & World Class will be co-promoting shows soon and show a video for Kerry Von Erich to Here I Go Again by Whitesnake. Ken Wayne vs. Scotty the Body (Scott Levy) (4/23/88) Yep that is the future Raven and Wayne wins easily. They show a Jeff Jarrett video after the match and Wayne is pissed off because he isn’t getting airtime then cuts a promo on Jarrett & Billy Travis. Lawler comes out pimping the vote for the referee in his match with Curt Hennig for the AWA title and this was a great scam then we get a Lawler video set to Forever Young. Downtown Bruno makes his return to Memphis after being gone for many months but is still suspended and the crowd loves him even though he is still heel. Bruno calls out Lawler, which leads out Robert Fuller who attacks Lawler using a noose to drag him around the studio as well as handcuffing him. Jarrett & Travis would clean Fuller out. This was great stuff and a definite extra. Doug & Tommy Gilbert vs. Alan Reynolds & Scott Steiner (4/23/88) Squash. Doug & Tommy Gilbert come out for a verbal confrontation with Eddie Marlin & The Bruise Brothers. The Bruise Brothers (Don & Ron Bruise), Jeff Jarrett, & Billy Travis vs. The Cuban Assassins & Rough & Ready (4/23/88) TV time runs out before the finish. Billy Travis vs. The Blue Knight (4/30/88) Squash. They show highlights of the Lawler/Fuller match from 4/25/88 with comments from Fuller & Jeff Jarrett. Doug & Tommy Gilbert come out with Gary Young & Missy Hyatt and Tommy announces that Gary has been adopted. Doug & Tommy Gilbert vs. Doug Dancin & Alan Reynolds (4/30/88) Squash. Brickhouse Brown comes out to talk about Brother Ernest being absent and the fans start chanting He’s Got AIDS, which Brick rips them for and it’s hilarious. Brick then buries Gary Young for lusting after Missy Hyatt and transforms the Cuban Assassins into the Cuban Choir Boys. This is fantastic. Hennig then cuts a great promo about how he isn’t a company champ like Flair & Savage but a true world champ. Lawler then gives a retort. 2 out of 3 falls: Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner, & Mark Starr vs. Cuban Choir Boys & Keith Eric (4/30/88) Competitive match.
