Posted February 3, 200817 yr comment_5427793 Dory and Terry Funk v. Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood (12/2/82) - This one starts out JIP early on but it doesn’t look like much was missing. Really nice sequence early on as Rick and Jay control working on Terry’s arm. Well, Jay won’t let go as him and Terry tumble outside. Terry gives him an airplane spin, dumps Jay on the canvas and Jay still has a hold of the arm. Most of the match has the teams working evenly with Jay pairing off with Terry and Rick pairing with Dory. The last 5 minutes of action really picked up with Ricky and Jay desperately trying to put away the Funks but Terry reverses a Jay flying body press for the pin. This was just one solid tag match and stands in strong contrast to the shitty Brody/Hansen tag. The biggest thing that hurt the match was a lack of heat. You get the feeling if it happened in Florida or North Carolina, the heat would have been off the charts. Still, this is a nomination. (AJC 78)
April 8, 201015 yr comment_5449145 This left me feeling very blah. They kept a nice pace and did some good looking stuff (strike exchange between Terry and Steamer, nifty double teams by Jay and Steamer). But no one ever seemed in peril, none of the match-ups took on an interesting dynamic and no moment felt more important than any other. The crowd's disinterest didn't help, but I blame the workers in part because they didn't set up anyone as the guy to root for. The end was as random as every other moment. No vote from me.
June 30, 201015 yr comment_5452610 Real World Tag League: Dory & Terry Funk vs. Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood (12/2/82) I'm pretty sure that Steamer & Youngblood got this tour because Dory was booking for JCP at the time. Lou Thesz is also here refereeing. This had some solid action going on here with both teams working hard but it wasn't spectacular. I liked the Funk/Steamer brawling on the floor and that was one of the few things that got good heat here as the fans were mostly apathetic for this one mainly because there wasn't any defined face or heel here although the Funks were defacto babyfaces since they were the established stars. Terry ate all the double-team finishers that Steamer & Youngblood had before tucking and rolling on a Youngblood cross body block off the top rope to get the win. This was a solid match and could be a nomination maybe somewhere else but not here plus if this was in the US the Funks would've been heels and the psychology would've been totally different and the match would've been a whole lot better IMO. Not a nomination.
