Harley Race & Dick Slater (12/9/82) - Both teams are playing up the mutual respect thing, breaking when they get to the ropes, no cheap shots early on. Terry and Slater work early on and both guys were fun to watch. There were som fun spots including the dueling Terry-Slater headbutt battle. Still, Dory Funk is so, so boring. Seriously, whether it is Race-Terry or Slater-Terry, I was interested in the match but when Dory would come in, I would lose interest. This thing goes 40 minutes and there is plenty of good stuff to nominate it but I don’t know how it would fare in voting. Another subdued crowd hurts the match. (AJC 79)
April 8, 201015 yr comment_5449170 This would've been fine if you cut out the first 25 minutes. It was another match inexplicably built around headlocks. I liked the comic protestations of nobility between Terry and Slater. That was a nice comic thread which could've brightened the first section of the match, but they didn't pick it up until more than halfway through. The last five minutes were pretty enjoyable (the Race diving headbutt to Terry's stomach was a highlight) but even then, I felt like they were working to the bell instead of trying to win. Overall, a dreadful bore and something I don't want to watch again.
June 30, 201015 yr comment_5452615 Real World Tag League: Dory & Terry Funk vs. Harley Race & "Mr. Unpredictable" Dick Slater (12/9/82) Slater & Terry were great against each other of course as it was like double vision watching these two since Dick idolized Terry copying him in almost every way. They were going long so of course the first part of this match would be mostly on the mat which was fine in this one because it would go long and not 15 minutes of matwork leading to a 2 minute stretch run. I loved the headbutt bonanza and the brawling on the floor between Slater & Terry who were like I said just great here. The Harley diving headbutt to Terry's ribs was a cool spot but he almost lost Terry holding him up for an atomic drop with Terry going over the top rope to the floor where Slater would bash his head into the table. It would eventually break down with a brawl on the floor involving Terry & Race while Dory almost got an inside cradle on Slater as the bell rang ending the match making it a time limit draw. This match had slow points and not a lot of crowd heat but damn were Slater & Terry awesome in this one making this a nomination to me.
