Ricky Fuyuki & Toshiaki Kawada vs. Dan Kroffat & Doug Furnas (All Asian Tag Title) (6/5/89) (24:17)

- Man, this is one of my favorite tags of the 1980s and it may just be a case where my #1 and #2 are from the same show. I love the early exchange between Lafon and Kawada where they lose their cool after Lafon slaps Kawada. I love how Furnas and Fuyuki slow it down until their partners hit the ring again and it is full steam ahead. I love how after the early stage, it is a constant game of one-upmanship with both teams taking you on a roller coaster ride with both battling back and forth for control. All the while, Kawada and Lafon continue their mini-feud when the time seems right. The crowd was hot, they cheered the gaigin over the natives and both teams were just freaking awesome here. Strong nomination.

Yeah, this ruled. Kawada and Kroffat set the tone with their desire to get at each other early, but the thing just accelerated from there. Furnas looked like the most powerful cruiserweight ever, tossing Fuyuki around like he was nothing. Kroffat tossed in so many great spots without reaching overkill. Kawada showed the great timing that would define him at his peak. The crowd was nutty down the stretch. Just a great match and if not top 2, certainly a contender for my top 10.

All-Asia Tag Titles: Footloose (Ricky Fuyuki & Toshiaki Kawada) © vs. The Can-Am Express (Doug Furnas & Dan Kroffat) (6/5/89)

This match taking place at Budokan rather than some other building that was cold is an underrated reason this match was so awesome because this crowd was nuts for this. From the pull-apart with Kawada & Kroffat that started the match followed by the freight train lariat that Furnas gave Fuyuki, this match had some great aggression going on. This would turn into one of the all-timers as these four men worked their asses off here looking great in everything they did with the crowd rockin and rollin with them. The stretch run here was as fucking good as it got and this is a grand slam nomination.
