A couple of really fun angles, as Lawler comes out as Freddy to try to scare Ronnie Gossett to death, and burns Tojo. You also have Action Jackson and his fat sister feuding with Sylvia and Robert Fuller which really ruled, especially Fuller toeing a racial line a bit. Both angles may need to make an extras tape
May 12, 200817 yr comment_5431262 Dave Brown announces that all title matches on TV will have TV timeouts, which is an interesting change. (5/6/89) Jeff Jarrett vs. Keith Eric (5/6/89) Squash. Kerry Von Erich shows up in the studio and helps Jarrett stand off against MOP & PY Chu-Hi. Kerry then cuts a promo about Jarrett and this is a great Kerry promo. Detroit Demolition vs. Chris Frazier (5/6/89) Squash. Fuller & Brian Lee come out and talk about a direction change in taking over the territory as he wants to now win the CWA titles then show off their new CWA Tag Titles. CWA Tag Titles: Robert Fuller & “Primetime” Brian Lee © vs. The Mason-Dixon Connection (John Paul & Tracy Smothers) (5/6/89) This started off pretty good with Paul throwing some good punches and Smothers hitting a sliding dropkick through the ropes knocking Lee into Fuller on the floor. Smothers would play FIP but would soon clash heads with Fuller where he would make the hot tag to Paul. This would turn into a 4-way brawl but Sylvia would hit Paul with the kendo stick and Fuller would get a schoolboy to win. The faces whine after the match about the ending and Marlin threatens to hold up the belts if the Stable doesn’t want to give them another rematch. I liked this a little more than Phil but still way too quick and they didn’t even get to use the TV timeout gimmick. Next is a mini version of the Renegades Cyclone Stampede which is basically a modified version of the Royal Rumble but in the arenas it has bunkhouse rules. Lord Humongous would win this small version. Master of Pain & PY Chu-Hi (Phil Hickerson) vs. The Eliminator & Johnny Reb (5/6/89) Squash. Fuller & Lee then close the show cutting a promo on their enemies. Jeff Jarrett & Billy Travis vs. Keith Eric & The Red Devil (5/13/89) Travis makes his return to the studio after being away for many months. Jarrett & Travis promise revenge on their foes afterwards. Lawler sends in a creepy taped promo where he appears and disappears. The heels then come out with Ronnie Gossett who is scared to death of Lawler and it’s funny watching them protect him especially Hashimoto. Gossett then cuts a great promo before we get the debut of Nightmare Freddy who is Lawler under the mask and he throws fire at Tojo & Gossett. Definite extra. Wild Side (Chris Champion & Mark Starr) vs. Buddy Brooks & Freezer Thompson (5/13/89) This is a great squash. Action Jackson comes out and declares that he has left the Stud Stable and is aligning with Jeff Jarrett and crew. Action Jackson vs. The Grappler (5/13/89) Squash. Sylvia comes out during the match and slaps him after the match prompting Jackson’s sister to attack her. Fuller comes out wanting her arrested and she is taken out by security. They bring her back out though when they found out who she was. Great stuff. Robert Fuller & “Primetime” Brian Lee vs. DD Araye & Alan Reynolds (5/13/89) Squash. Sylvia just beats the jobbers with a kendo stick. 2 out of 3 falls: “Dirty” Dutch Mantell vs. Mike Masters (5/20/89) Dutch came out wanting it 2 out of 3 and spotted Masters the first fall so he could kick his ass twice. Dutch then tells a story of when he whooped Terry Funk’s ass at Disney World and Dusty Rhodes at the Miami airport and that he can’t get a break in CWA due to politics. Billy Travis shows up and eventually gets slapped by Dutch setting off a brawl broken up by Eddie Marlin. Jeff Jarrett & Billy Travis vs. The Grappler & The Hangman (5/20/89) Squash. Lawler then sends in another taped promo of him in a first aid room where he talks about calling in a specialist who can help him get rid of his enemies and he brings in Austin Idol. Then we get a Lawler/Idol video. PY Chu-Hi (Phil Hickerson) & Shogun (Shinya Hashimoto) vs. Chris Frazier & Alan Reynolds (5/20/89) Squash. Gossett & Tojo cut a great promo after the match where Tojo vows to kill Lawler. Then we get highlights of the Jacksons/Fullers feud from MSC on 5/15/89 followed up with a promo by Fuller & Lee and a Sylvia video to Super Freak by Rick James. Action Jackson vs. The Shadow (5/20/89) Squash. Ronnie Gossett interviews Wild Side and they heel it up. Wild Side (Chris Champion & Mark Starr) vs. Darren Carpe & Frankie “The Thumper” Lancaster (5/20/89) Squash. Dave interviews the Mason-Dixon Connection in the back about Wild Side. The Mason-Dixon Connection (John Paul & Tracy Smothers) vs. Keith Eric & The Red Devil (5/20/89) Wild Side would run in for the DQ and got cleared out of the ring.
