Steve Regal & Kevin Kelly (03/04/84 in Chicago, IL) - Decent tag match that ends after Robinson drops Regal with a backbreaker. I don’t know how high the match quality is going to get with the AWA so we’ll leave this for consideration but this isn’t a real endorsement either. Jumbo Tsuruta v. BlackJack Lanza (AWA Title, 03/04/84 in Chicago) - Lanza looks really skinny here. I’ll have to check some old 70s footage but I always thought he was much thicker and similar to Mulligan. Maybe he just has that old man atrophy going on. The crowd was getting behind Lanza but I wasn’t and found myself bored with this match. What is with his temple twist move? Jumbo wins with a weird butt drop/ Thesz press thing. Jumbo Tsuruta v. Billy Robinson (AWA Title, 03/11/84 in Green Bay, WI) - I really love the Jumbo-Billy matches from the 70s but have no idea how this one will turn out. Neither wrestler controlled the match and you never got the sense that momentum was going one way or the other. I may give this a revisit when we do AWA but I wouldn’t put it forward if this was in the All Japan section.
