Posted February 9, 200817 yr comment_5427992 Barry Windham vs. Lex Luger- This starts out with Barry shining and outsmarting Luger. The rest of the amtch was a nice back and forth where no spots really stood out but whre you were still interested in who would get the upper-hand. This has a bad ending as Windham is tripped up and Luger kind of stumbles onto him and then drops an elbow. A ref runs in to stop Tommy Young from counting the 3-count and Arn Anderson comes in and attacks Barry. I'll give this a low-level nomination but there are so many better matches out there.(NWA TV 8/87 - 9/87 Disc 3)
April 10, 200817 yr comment_5430583 The building must have been really, really hot, because they were sweating like crazy within 5 minutes. This isn't a great match, but I'd still call it a low-level nomination because of the big match feel and Windham's really cool comeback. I actually thought Luger did a good post-match promo as well. It was also mentioned as one of those Luger matches better than Storm's best in the Earth v. Lonce discussion a while back, so for that reason, it may be a worthwhile inclusion.
April 10, 200817 yr Author comment_5430587 Yeah, the hope is that another handheld or some rare TV match will surface that will give these guys 20 minutes and let them go all out. I doubt that will happen.
July 24, 201411 yr comment_5614377 I'll give this a low-level nomination. I really loved the early exchanges of Windham out speeding the strength of Luger. So we get 5 minutes of this and it was great. Windham misses a drop kick and Luger starts his heat segment. Then we get a commercial break. Back from the break we see Luger use a rolling neck breaker, and then clinches in a bear hug. Windham uses a swank belly to belly suplex to escape the bear hug. Now we're going into the finish and it's all good until the screw job finish. Though we get a nice post match to put an exclamation mark on the match.
June 10, 20169 yr comment_5756637 US Heavyweight Title: "Total Package" Lex Luger © vs. Barry Windham (9/13/87)Windham uses his agility and experience to fluster Luger early on and the fans were going nuts for Barry. Luger does a really good job here of stooging for Windham and you can tell he has definitely learned how to play this type of heel from his Horsemen brethren. The tide turned when Windham missed a big dropkick as Luger held the rope and now Luger goes to a power offensive game to weaken Windham. We go to a break and miss some action but Luger is still in control although Windham is fighting when he can to get it back. Windham gets a belly-to-belly to break free from a bearhug for a nearfall then comes firing back with shots until we get a double collision. Windham recovered first and went for a Figure-Four but Luger kicked out then hit him with a big suplex. Both men are feeling the effects of this battle as Windham hit a sloppy lariat then hit his big one foot dropkick off the top rope but Dillon pulled his leg so Windham jumped him on the floor. Arn runs out as Windham goes back in the ring then Arn would grab Windham's leg as he tried another lariat but Earl Hebner ran in the ring and told Tommy Young what happened so Barry won by DQ. Arn & Luger then jumped Windham with Windham getting put in the Torture Rack until the RnR made the save. Luger & Dillon then cut a promo afterwards about the situation. This was a pretty good match and it's enough for a low-end nomination.
