Also you had the debut of Willie B. Cool who was a fat black guy working a rapper gimmick who had a nasty brainbuster, was this a bloated Koko? Rookie Mo?
May 14, 200817 yr comment_5431286 CWA Tag Titles: Action Jackson & Billy Travis © vs. Wild Side (Chris Champion & Mark Starr) (6/24/89) There was some good action here as Wild Side looked great with Travis playing the FIP well as he took a beating. Champion threw a tremendous dropkick here and looked the best out of anyone. Travis would get the hot tag to Jackson but Calhoun didn’t see it so as this is happening Starr tries to run Travis into a steel chair held by Champion but it backfires and Travis covers him for the win. No hot tag in the match, which sorta hampers it for me. Jerry Jarrett comes out and talks about how the big names in wrestling can’t come to Memphis because of their affiliations with the NWA & WWF and said that now the CWA is starting an open door policy. They play this off as revolutionary but World Class did this earlier in the year. “Dirty White Boy” Tony Anthony & Black Bart vs. Chris Frazier & Duce Mason (6/24/89) Squash. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell & Master of Pain vs. Rodney Napper & Ken Raper (6/24/89) Squash. The DI Bob Carter makes his debut and has aligned with Spike Huber. DI Bob Carter & Spike Huber vs. Tim Hall & Freezer Thompson (6/24/89) Squash. Jerry “The King” Lawler & Nightmare Freddy (Tommy Gilbert) vs. Keith Eric & Keith Roberson (6/24/89) Squash. Billy Travis comes out and says that Action Jackson isn’t at the studio yet and wants his match against Wild Side with the CWA Tag Titles against their hair pushed back to later in the show. Wild Side said that ain’t happening. Handicap Match for the CWA Tag Title: Billy Travis © vs. Wild Side (Chris Champion & Mark Starr (7/1/89) Travis puts up a fight but their chair spot they tried the last week works this time and they pound Travis numerous times on the chair causing him to juice. Travis bleeds all over the place as he is getting his ass kicked and it forces Jerry Calhoun to stop the match thus giving them the titles. Wild Side then cuts a promo after the match with Travis’ blood on their faces. Chilly B. Cool vs. Keith Eric (7/1/89) I have no idea on who Chilly is but he wants his music played throughout the match 7 years before The Gangstas. Chilly squashes him. Ricky Morton makes his return to Memphis and is confronted by Bob Carter & Doug Gilbert whose hair is ridiculous before the jump him grinding his face on the floor. DI Bob Carter & Doug Gilbert vs. Chris Frazier & Ken Raper (7/1/89) Squash. “Dirty White Boy” Tony Anthony & Black Bart vs. Tim Hall & Freezer Thompson (7/1/89) Squash. Dustin Rhodes makes his debut and gets into a confrontation with DWB & Bart. Next we get clips of Bigelow, Frazier, & Lawler going after Ronnie Gossett at MSC on 6/26/89. The entire heel locker room then comes out to attack the faces. “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich vs. Duce Mason (7/1/89) Squash. “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes, Ricky Morton, & Nightmare Freddy (Tommy Gilbert) vs. Keith Roberson, Rough & Ready (7/1/89) Squash. MOP would come out trying to take off Freddy’s mask but Freddy throws fire to end that assault. Ronnie Gossett then sends in a hilarious bedside promo with ice on his head declaring revenge on Lawler & Jackie Fargo. Dundee cuts a taped promo saying that he is going to help Ricky Morton take care of DI & Doug Gilbert and they cut a promo in retort. (7/8/89) Master of Pain vs. Ken Raper (7/8/89) Squash. “Dirty White Boy” Tony Anthony & Black Bart vs. Keith Eric & Tim Hall (7/8/89) Squash. Jarrett & Dustin then cut a promo about DWB & Bart. The Black Birds & Harold Harris cut their debut promo and Harris is hilarious. The Black Birds (Brickhouse Brown & Iceman King Parsons) vs. Tim Hall & Ken Raper (7/8/89) Squash. Boxing Match: Jerry “The King” Lawler vs. Ronnie Gossett (7/8/89) This was funny for what it was before MOP got involved for the DQ. They pound on Lawler before the faces make the save. “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes, Jeff Jarrett, & Nightmare Freddy (Tommy Gilbert) vs. Keith Roberson, & Rough & Ready (7/8/89) Squash. Jackie Fargo then sends in a taped promo about Gossett and this is great in the Fargo way.
