Posted February 21, 200817 yr comment_5428335 Man do I love this match. Only downside is a deadish crowd, but otherwise this is two of the best of all time bringing it. Lawler breaks out a ton of offense here, enzigiri, multiple diving fistdrops, piledriver, side suplex, calf branding, plus awesome Lawler punches and cheapshots. No chain or fire, but he does break a Fujinami sleeper with a back kick low blow. Awesome leg selling by Lawler too. Really a hidden gem, no one talks about.
June 9, 200916 yr comment_5440456 I liked this a lot. Lawler did a great job selling Fujinami's leg kicks in the opening section, and the damage came into play down the stretch. It was good to see some straight rights and fist drops in NJ, and I loved Lawler breaking the sleeper with a back kick to the groin. This won't push for the very top of my ballot. But it's a match-up of guys who would be high seeds in a mythical 1980s Superworkers Cup, and it didn't disappoint. It has to go on. NJ Classics 337
August 10, 200916 yr comment_5442654 3/16/89 Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Jerry Lawler (Sky A 123) - Early on, I was pleased with Fujinami’s work on Lawler’s arm and even Lawler working Fujinami’s back, although Lawler got a little too chinlock happy. However, the ease in which they switched control segments was great. When someone took over, it always seemed like the most logical way. Add Lawler selling the hell out of the leg (and Fujinami going back to it) through the match and using his intellect to outsmart Fujinami at key moments and I was hooked. The ending was awkward and too bad the crowd was as silent as I have ever seen from a Japanese crowd up until the last couple of minutes. You would have thought these guys were in a prelim from PWFG. If this match took place in the Mid South Coliseum, this would have been a top 10 match on the Memphis set. Enthusiastic yes from me.
