Yatsu (UN Title, 07/31/86) - I wasn’t really feeling this match. Really slow start with a hot ending. The ending that resulted in a countout was actually pretty neat but not enough for a nomination. Tiger Mask v. Kabuki (07/31/86) - The fisrt 7 minutes or so have Misawa working the headlock and Kabuki trying to escapes. Each time, he escapes, he gets grounded again. Finally, he takes control after a pretty nasty belly to back. With Kabuki in control, he works a weird armlock that Tiger Mask has to work out of. I am not surprised that Misawa did more to work the arm lock than Kabuki did to work the headlock. The end run saw a dive to the outside where Kabuki takes another bump you would never see him take in North America. The end is a double pin where Tiger Mask gets his arm up before the three count. This was pretty fun but not a nomination. Stan Hanson v. Tenyru (AWA Title, 7/26/86) - Early on, Hansen controls by working on the neck and head. If his goal is to set up the Lariat, this is a pretty good strategy. Tenryu takes over after Hansen misses a charge in the corner injures his shoulder. Tenryu takes advantage and starts working on the arm. I like the strategy of both guys but it isn’t that fun to watch. Things really pick up after it spills outside including a SWEET enziguiri by Tenryu as Hansen tries to get back in the ring. Hansen also gets busted open giving us our blood fix. When they end up out of the ring a 2nd time, both men get counted out and they brawl around the arena. The first half was pretty slow but it made sense even if it was a tad boring. The 2nd half was really fun and puts this in nomination territory.
September 8, 201015 yr comment_5455443 Tiger Mask II vs. Norio Honaga (11/1/86) JIP and nothing much. NWA United National Heavyweight Title: Genichiro Tenryu © vs. Yoshiaki Yatsu (7/31/86) Yatsu slapping the shit out of Tenryu was awesome then Tenryu answered back with some hard slaps of his own with Sumo Hall loving it but in between the hard slaps there was some slow action. Yatsu then got some nearfalls on suplexes before Tenryu broke out a Fisherman's Buster then started working over Yatsu's back. After about 3 dropkicks by Yatsu the match went to the floor where Tenryu would get posted but he would fire back with an enzuigiri once back in the ring. Yatsu would sneak in a German though for a nearfall and Sumo Hall is getting hot but a sloppy lariat attempt sent Tenryu into the post and Yatsu to the floor where both men would get counted out. Super Strong Machine would come out afterwards and gave Tenryu a German for his trouble as well. Man that countout came at a bad time as this was heating up so this isn't a nomination. Tiger Mask II vs. The Great Kabuki (7/31/86) This was dominated early by a TM II headlock then a Kabuki short arm scissors and this is slow. It would finally pick up when TM dropkicked Kabuki to the floor followed up by a slingshot plancha before a funky finish where Kabuki hit a backdrop suplex on TM off the ropes but TM would get his shoulders up as Kabuki's was counted down. There was one problem though, TM was off of Kabuki before the count of 3. AWA World Heavyweight Title: Stan "The Lariat" Hansen © vs. Genichiro Tenryu (7/26/86) Good fast paced start with both men bringing the aggression before Hansen would work headlocks and chinlocks weakening the neck. Hansen would miss a running shoulder into the corner with his lariat arm no less so Tenryu smartly decides to work that arm over. The match would go to the floor where they brawl a little before Tenryu comes back in and hits an enzuigiri sending Hansen from the apron back to the floor. Tenryu would come back for him and would bash Hansen's head into the table forcing him to juice then popping him with a couple more enzuigiris for nearfalls as the crowd was getting hot. Tenryu went for a powerbomb but failed so he decided to work over Hansen's cut some more until Hansen hit him with a desperation lariat sending both men to the floor. They fought on the floor as Joe Higuchi counted them out then continued to brawl after the match. Yeah this was a solid match and moves forward.
