All Japan Classics 67

Stan Hansen & Ole Anderson vs. Jack & Jerry Brisco (2/28/82 in Atlanta GA)

- From the start, the heels gain the advantage and concentrate on Jack’s stomach and back. Jack is FIP and eventually makes the hot tag. Jerry gets abused for a couple of minutes before tagging Jack in who tries to get a Figure-4 on. In the end, Hansen hits Jack with the Lariat allowing Ole to get the pin. Man, I can’t really fault any of the guys here as all four worked really hard. There were some awkward spots and you can’t hear the crowd so I don’t know if they were dead or if it is the voice-over. I’ll nominate it anyway.

Nick Bockwinkel vs. Jumbo Tsuruta (AWA Title, 2/4/82)

- I think we will probably have to throw some Jumbo-Bock on the set but I don’t know if it will be like other matchups, where multiple matches are going on. Maybe it is just me but Bockwinkel does nothing for me. Maybe KHawk can help me… what are his signature or patented moves? What makes him stand out outside his interviews and Bobby Heenan? This match does have the coolest abdominal stretch ever though as Bock tries to drop down to escape and they look like they are doing the limbo, they are standing so close to the ground.

Giant Baba vs. Stan Hansen (PWF Title, 2/4/82)

- The crowd is HOT for this one. I am guessing this is the first match for Hansen after his debut. Hansen is great selling for Baba in this and the crowd responds to every strike and every move. Bab did his homework though and works over Hansen’s arm. Hansen counters by keeping Baba grounded. The end was pretty great as Baba takes a Hansen lariat and plops to the outside. They brawl for a few minutes but Hansen worked the crowd into a frenzy. I am nominating this one more for the environment than anything although there were some nice sequences.
