Posted February 24, 200817 yr comment_5428555 All Japan Women Classics 5 + 6 Classics 5 Devil Masami vs. Chigusa Nagayo (8/22/85) - This is probably in my Top 5 matches of all matches from the 80s. I thought this was superior to the famous Yokota-Asuka match even though both will make the set. I remember watching this but I thought I posted my comments somewhere. Oh well, here are Loss’s thoughts which about sum up what I think, except I would call this one of the few 5 star matches I have seen. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?show...&hl=Chigusa Classics 6 WWWA Champion Jaguar Yokota vs. Lioness Asuka (8/22/85) - Christ, I have heard it before but what these girls were doing in 1985 compared to the rest of the world was insane. I usually try to recap the theme or spots in a match so I can remember the match in the future but this match is happening so fast there isn’t any real sequence I can type quick enough without missing something. I guess I can look to Jaguar working the leg to keep Asuka grounded and between those segments, they pull out the flash pins, roll ups, roll throughs, flips, dives, etc. Just beautiful sequences. Christ, Jaguar even breaks out a jackhammer 12 years before Goldberg. When Asuka reverses a Figure-4, that creates an opening for her to start attacking Jaguar’s leg. Super hot ending as they unload on each other trying to get the pin. Jaguar breaks out the double underhook piledriver and Asuka’s kicks are stiff as hell. In one of the most insane sequences ever (for 1985), Asuka teases a superplex counter to the outside before flapjacking her into the ring from the top rope. She then proceeds to miss a frog splash as Jaguar rolls out of the way. This made me hit the rewind button a couple of times. This opens up the door for Jaguar to get a leg hook, backdrop driver pin thingamabob. Fuck, this match wasn’t quite as great as the Nagayo-Masami match but it was pretty damn great. I have seen so much awesome joshi in a shjort span that I won’t guess where it ends up but it is at #2 for the moment. History of the Crush Gals (17:51) - This is pretty damn cool. If you have no idea who these girls are then this is a good primer. It also has some performance clips. Extra.

Devil is awesome in this. Man, the first half of this match gut-wrenchingly tedious but the gigantic spots in the last ten minutes make up for it. I'm not feeling Lioness' repetive half-assed matwork- in that even Jaguar frickin Yokota working against can't make it interesting. Lacked hate, and Jaguar responds best to some semblance of hate. I dunno. I assume a thousand matches will smoke this.
April 29, 200817 yr Author comment_5430965 I assume Childs is going to be breaking lots of gridlock. There is no way that Asuka-Yokota match does not go on the set.

I see what Dean is saying, but I think this match has to go on given the hype it has received over the years and the stature of the combatants.
April 30, 200817 yr Author comment_5430974 I think both of you are nuts. For as much 80s wrestling that I have watched over the last year, matwork that ultimately becomes meaningless happens in about 98% of the shit I have seen/nominated. I have said this before and I'll repeat it over and over again, not every wrestling match has to be a hate-filled, blood-soaked, stiff-punched brawl to be good. Maybe that is just what you enjoy most these days. Lord knows I love that type of match but it doesn't become the only thing I look for.

My beef with this match isn't that the matwork is pointless- my beef is that this is fuckin JAGUAR YOKOTA and LIONESS ASUKA- two of the best wrestlers to ever live- and the best they can come up with to kill the first ten minutes of the match is listless matwork. The end of the match should get it on the comp but the first part is inexcusable.
May 2, 200817 yr comment_5431010 I think this match suffers some backlash because, for awhile, people called it the greatest Joshi match ever, when in fact, Devil vs. Chigusa blew it away on the same night. That's unfair, and I agree that it's an easy nomination on its merits.

Watching Dusty in a headlock for 5 minutes without so much a shake of the arm is painful. I also come from a different viewpoint because I am new to all of these wrestlers. I am brand new to all of these women... JBA, Jaguar, Lioness, Dump, Crush Gals, etc. When I watch this stuff, I am like a kid in the candy store.
