Posted February 24, 200817 yr comment_5428565 This is fresh enough in my mind from when I watched it that I figured I'd post about it. This is a title match so it's largely on the mat and Aguayo the brawler hangs with V3 every step of the way. Just a great match that's a really good example of how title matches are worked differently given that Aguayo's better known as a big bumping brawler.
February 26, 200817 yr comment_5428655 Something fascinating about this match is that there are 4-5 tombstone piledrivers as mid level moves. I know pre-Pena the piledriver wasn't a DQ but here it seemed a little excessive, especially for a move that looks like a killer.
November 22, 201015 yr comment_5458559 You are always a little let down when you see a DVD labeled Villano 3 v. Perro Aguyao and the mat isn't scarlet by the end. I had never seen Aguayo work the mat like this before and he was really good at it, they did a bunch of nifty little counters and momentum shifts, and the top rope moves and tope looked good too. Should make a set for sure, although it isn't something that is going to finish super high.
October 3, 201114 yr comment_5484091 I'm kinda wondering if I'm watching a different match than everyone else. It's a title match, and it starts out with a lot of nice matwork, but it shifts into brawling mode and stays that way for the rest of the match and beyond. Both guys looked good slugging it out, and Villano's flying cross headbutts were boss. Finish was what it was, but the post-match brawling more than made up for it. Some minor awkward moments here and there, but it doesn't detract from it much, and overall it's a nomination.
July 14, 201213 yr comment_5510091 WWF Lt. Heavyweight Title: Villano III © vs. Perro Aguayo Jr. (10/7/84) I'm like Phil here in I was expecting more violence here but we got something totally different yet satisfying as they do work this title match style. The matwork here was very solid with Perrito looking as good on the mat as I've seen him going move for move with V-3. The match would kick into high gear as they started brawling and throwing out the dives like Perrito hitting a big tope suicida to the floor. Perro's selling of the DDT was great and you thought the blood would come out there but it didn't. There were a lot of piledrivers going on here which was interesting considering it's an automatic DQ in this era. The fans were into the match heavy towards the end and we got a great stretch run as both guys were going all out before the predictable double pin finish. I dug this one a lot as it had an epic style feel to it where everything mattered and they weren't going a million moves a minute which there is nothing wrong with that of course. Easy nomination.
