Posted February 26, 200817 yr comment_5428627 This starts with one of the Dundee/Calhoun vs. Street/Cornette/Linda matches from another disc and follows with a strap match between Dundee and the three which was fine. Next we get a Dutch Mantell video then the video of Mantell/Lawler with Winner Takes It All by ABBA as the song. Southern Heavyweight Title: Jerry “The King” Lawler © vs. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell (3/15/82) This is clipped up and it sucks we don’t have this in full because this is a total slugfest. The match is called a no contest because both men just brawl throughout the crowd. No DQ, No Time Limit for the Southern Heavyweight Title: Jerry “The King” Lawler © vs. Dutch Mantell (3/22/82) Dutch coming out to Lueckenbach, Texas by Waylon & Willie fucking rules. Lawler just throws some awesome punches here that Dutch sold like death. Dutch got pissed and dropped to the floor where he launched a chair across the ring that hit Lawler square in the leg that he would soon take advantage of. Lawler would fire punches though to stop Dutch in his tracks. There is a clip but comes back not too far from where we were at by the way it looks. Dutch is getting the heat on Lawler now and he just roughhouses him both in and out of the ring along with using the steel chair. Mantell gets quite a few nearfalls before Lawler makes his comeback and drops the strap. Lawler unloads like a madman on Dutch but to Dutch’s credit he starts firing back although they would clash heads taking them both down. Dutch would go to the floor where Lawler would start back firing shots on the apron but Dutch would get a sunset flip on Lawler for the win. This was simply awesome and a slam dunk nomination. No DQ, No Time Limit, Barbed Wire Match for the Southern Heavyweight Title: “Dirty” Dutch Mantell © vs. Jerry “The King” Lawler (3/29/82) It was fun watching these guys work a different style match around the barbed wire as these guys loved going to the floor in their previous matches. This is just a bloody brawl with both men just beating the piss out of each other along with using the barbed wire as the main weapon. It’s a grueling battle with both men being exhausted and the finish was simply awesome. Masterlock nomination. Then we get the Coal Miners Glove match again. Jacques Rougeau vs. Rick McGraw (11/29/82) Okay match nothing special. #1 Contender Elimination Match for the Southern Heavyweight Title: Terry Taylor vs. Crusher Broomfield (One Man Gang) vs. “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton vs. Bobby Fulton vs. Jacques Rougeau vs. Sweet Brown Sugar (11/22/82) Fun match that saw Taylor get the victory.
March 4, 200817 yr comment_5429019 Bill Dundee/Calhoun vs. Street/Cornette/Linda - Dundee vs. Street is good. The rest was comedy shtick. Bill Dundee vs. Adrian Street, Jim Cornette & Miss Linda - I liked this better than the first match and the singles Dundee-Street. Cornette was a pest and later on in the match, he appeared to be busted open. However, this was about Dundee getting his hands on Linda and Street trying to prevent him. In between the soap opera we get a pretty great Dundee-Street match that had plenty of time to build and a hot ending. Dundee fights all three of them off and ends up hitting Street with a flying body press for the pin. I think this deserves a nomination. Dutch Mantel Music Video (Winner Takes It All) - EXTRA Jerry Lawler vs. Dutch Mantel Clips (3/15/82) Jerry Lawler vs. Dutch Mantel (No DQ) (3/22/82) - This was epic. If Lawler's best opponent was Bill Dundee, his 2nd best was Dutch Mantel. You can tell Dutch doesn't want any part of Lawler becasue every time he gets close, Lawler knocks him on his ass. However, when he gains control, he attacks like a hungry dog. Hell, because there is no DQ, he just casually brings a chair in and whacks Lawler across the head. The stretch run was as good as any Memphis finish I have seen. The punching, the selling, the drama... all there. Awesome Top Ten nomination. Jerry Lawler vs. Dutch Mantel (3/29/82) - Both guys are really tentative to start. Once Dutch gets control, he starts carving Lawler up with the barbed wire. I love how when Lawler goes on offense, it consists of using the barbed wire and punching Mantel square in the head. Thankfully, Mantel can give as good as he gets and we get a war. It may sound cliche but Lawler did not win this match, he survived it and the finish plays up that theme perfectly. Another Top Ten match. Luke Williams & Jonathan Boyd vs. Jacques Rougeau & Terry Taylor (Coal Miner's Glove) - I must be in a really good mood today because I thought this was fun as hell. When Jacque came in, he hits a dropkick and immediately goes for the pole. Even when Jacques flubbed the rope jump, his mistake cost him as Butch knocked him to the floor and Butch was able to climb the pole. I mark for Jonathan Boyd so when I see him in there instead of Butch, I feel much better. Later on, Terry Taylor's decision to stop Boyd from climibing the pole instead of tagging his partner cost him. I agree that the ending sucked but the chase to the top of the pole was great. Nomination. Jacques Rougeau vs. Rick McGraw - Just a match Terry Taylor, Jacques Rougeau & Bobby Fulton vs. Crusher Broomfield, Sweet Brown Sugar & Bobby Eaton (Elimination Tag Match) - I want to revisit this. It felt like a nomination.
