All Japan Classics 86

Mil Mascaras & Dos Caras vs. Masa Fuchi & Akio Sato (11/28/83)

- I have seen better matches form the luchadores. Fuchi was the star of his team but this one was over fairly quickly and didn’t really build to anything before the ending.

Dory and Terry Funk vs. Bruiser Brody & Stan Hanson (4/20/83)

- Classic Southern tag formula here with Brody and Hansen punishing Dory as face in peril. When Terry hits the ring, the crowd goes nuts and Brody and Hansen actually sell. Didn’t expect that. The Funks turn the tide and for a short time, Brody plays man in peril. One neat spot shows Terry taking off Brody’s boot and before Brody can get the tag, Terry runs over and knocks Stan loopy with Brody’s boot. Just watching Terry against both guys is such a treat. The crowd and the opponents are more energized and I am more enthusiastic about the match as a result. We end up with a countout ending and a post-match brawl after but this is a nomination.

Dory and Terry Funk vs. Bruiser Brody & Stan Hanson (4/22/83)

- I had high hopes for this based on the last match but this is bad Hansen and Brody. Hansen and Brody give the Funks nothing. Things that Brody sold for in the last match aren’t getting sold here. When it looks like the Funks should be in control after the damage to Hansen’s leg, he tags out shortly after and it is forgotten. In fact, the Funks rarely ever gain control before it is shrugged off and they go to something else. Brody ends up disqualified but this match was a major letdown after the last one.

This had some good action and they kept it moving but it was nothing special.

Bruiser Brody & Stan "The Lariat" Hansen vs. Dory & Terry Funk (4/20/83)

The fans are apeshit for the Funks as they come to the ring and you get the vibe already that this is going to be fun. Brody & Hansen show up and they don't terrorize the crowd just walk straight to the ring so they mean fucking business here. Streamers flying everywhere which is another sign that this is going to be great. Terry against these guys is always fun and they have a fun start here before Dory gets in firing forearms but he would soon get worked over by the big men. Dory takes some good punishment with Terry having great facials in the corner begging for a tag which he would get and the fans were nuts for Terry getting the best of the big men with them actually selling which was always a plus for them. I loved Terry using Brody's boot to bash both of them before taking it to the floor where the brawling would begin but it would immediately go back in the ring where Brody would sneak attack Terry allowing the big men to go back on the offensive. Terry was so awesome selling for these guys and Dory would finally have enough so this turned into a wild 4-way brawl and a double countout as Terry & Stan brawled in the streamers. The brawl kept going after the match and this is a definite nomination.

Yeah this definitely wasn't like the last match as it was all Brody & Hansen on offense and not giving the Funks hardly anything then no selling what offense they did have. Terry tried to make this good with his greatness but it just couldn't save this match.
