Posted February 29, 200817 yr comment_5428828 Texas Death: The Rock n Roll Express (Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton) vs. The Grapplers (Tony Anthony & Len Denton) (6/20/83) RnR won two quick falls before the Grapplers started up the attack on Morton. Grapplers would even the falls as they just punish Morton relentlessly in and out of the ring. Morton starts going for the loaded boot as he was trying to fight his way to Gibson but would get his head slammed into a steel chair for his trouble to lose another fall. Gibson gets tired of this so he pulls out a chain and decks a Grappler with Morton falling on him to even the odds back at 3. Paul Morton would count both men and Morton made it up before the 10 count and the RnR won the match. This was good enough to go on as a low-end nomination.
March 2, 200817 yr comment_5428912 The Rock and Roll Express vs The Grapplers in a Texas Death Match. The wrestlers start out hot and a first fall happens within seconds. This is good stuff. The Grapplers are a good meat and potatoes tag team. Morton's selling of the Grappler's stuff was great. The 4th fall the Grapplers nail Morton with a cool looking finisher. Morton is so great at those little hope spots. Lance Russell does a great job of explaining the reason Morton is going for The Grappler's boot. I didn't see Robert Gibson using a chain coming. I think this is a low end nomination. To me the stips hurt the match. A tag team Texas Death Match seemed a bit weird.
March 4, 200817 yr comment_5428984 - Not a very impressive showing from the RNR here. The crowd seemed deflated for some reason and the TX Death stip wasn't really played up to. Hell, the clips from the 1986 TX Death match are better than this. No vote. Shoe, I disagree. The Guerreros-Fabs had a tag Death match and Memphis had the famous 1986 TX Death Match Tag.
March 4, 200817 yr comment_5428989 I haven't watched the Guerreros/ Fabs one yet. I think I may have been overstating it. I just didn't feel the hate that is needed for the Death Match stip and just applied it to tag team wrestling which wasn't right or fair. Like the Fabs would probaly have a great one with the Sheepherders or The Moondogs.
April 14, 200817 yr comment_5430673 I am going to vote no here too, not a ton of heat, and kind of a cheap finish. Never really got cracking like you hoped it would. Was this Anthony and Denton? Or did Memphis have fake Grapplers like they had fake Assassins, Spolier, Super Destroyer, Mr. Wrestling ect.?
April 18, 200817 yr comment_5430739 On the one hand I really liked this as it was going on. Not wild and crazy Texas Death but more slower paced RAW Last Man standing match or something. End felt abrupt like the match needed to kick into one more gear before finish. I didn't dig this as much after it was over as i did while it was taking place. I could go either way on this.
