All Japan Classics 75

Giant Baba vs. Tiger Jeet Singh (PWF Title, 6/8/82)

- No.

Bruiser Brody vs. Jumbo Tsuruta (Int'l Title, 10/7/82)

- This was surprisingly better than I thought it would be. Jumbo actually went into the match with a game plan of taking out Brody’s legs and Jumbo spends most of the match working the legs. The biggest problem is that Brody doesn’t know how to sell. The guy is in a Figure 4 and leg grapevines and leg locks for 10 minutes and he shrugs it off. I would have to chalk it up to a good gameplan but Brody kind of killed it.

Giant Baba vs. Harley Race (PWF Title, 10/26/82)

- Another good match between these two. The crowd isn’t as fired up as they were during the NWA title changes but this had some good moments worth mentioning. Halfway through, Race goes for a headbutt from the apron to the floor and misses giving Baba control. Later on, both guys end up bloody after ramming each other into the ringposts. The end run washot. Baba hits his Hart Attack clothesline that he won the NWA title with but Race kicks out. He attempts a dropkick but Race moves and hits a SWEET diving headbutt to win the match. Another nomination for these two guys. I have watched a shitload of Race the last few days and I don’t know where Phil is coming from at all. Yes, he has had bad matches but so has nearly every other wrestler I have seen. Yes, he hits a ton of big moves but usually in the context of trying to put the match away at the end. I still need to find the piledriver match Tom mentioned but so far I give Harley a nice big fat thumbs up.

PWF Heavyweight Title: Giant Baba © vs. Tiger Jeet Singh (6/8/82)

Ueda & Kurt Von Hess helping Tiger Jeet to the ring was hilarious. This was what you would expect.

NWA International Heavyweight Title: Bruiser Brody © vs. Jumbo Tsuruta (10/7/82)

This was more mat based than your average Brody match with Jumbo really working on Brody's legs which was very smart but you have Brody being Brody here and doesn't sell it worth a damn. This was also a little long for a Brody match and he wasn't strong in those matches plus you add in so-so crowd heat and this isn't a nomination.

PWF Heavyweight Title: Giant Baba © vs. "Mr. Puroresu" Harley Race (10/26/82)

This wasn't the NWA title matches but this was still good stuff as you got yet again double juice then a really fun stretch run that saw Baba hit all his big moves before missing the russian legsweep allowing Race to just kill him with a diving headbutt off the top rope to win the title. This was really fun and moves forward easily.
