Posted March 7, 200817 yr comment_5429120 Memphis #24 8/29-10/10/87 (2 discs) Disc 1 8/29/87 Interviews Jerry Lawler Interview (Possible Extra) Jarrett & Travis vs. Mike Davis & Tommy Lane - Decent first fall with a cool spot as Travis runs the ropes but Davis leads him to the turnmbuckle and rams him into the turnbuckle. First fall ends in a double countout as both teams brawl to the outside. 2nd fall was over quickly with a flash small package by Jarrett. Not much meat here for a nomination. 9/5/87 Interviews Big Bubba and Brickhouse Brown Dancing Demonstration (EXTRA) Jerry Lawler Commercial (EXTRA) Interviews: Faces, Heels Diamond, Tanaka & Fergie vs. Jarrett, Travis & Smothers - First fall is mainly a chance to let the faces shine. However, as Smothers was going to roll up Fergie off the ropes, Brickhouse Brown knocked him out to take the first fall. Fergie plays bumping stooging heel just fine. All of the faces take turns abusing him in the 2nd fall and the crowd is loving this match. Later on in the fall, Travis plays FIP but it turns into a free for all and Smothers pins Fergie off an assisted sunset flip after Jarrett clotheslined him over. While the 1st fall ended abruptly, the 2ndd fall took its time and this match moved into nomination territory. However, I don't know what the deal is but they never went to a 3rd fall. I'll have to check the Evansville stuff and see if we get a 3rd fall or if TV time ran out. I'll reserve my nomination until I find out. Rocky Johnson Music Video (Soul Man) 9/12/87 Bill Dundee vs. George Barnes (Cage Match Clip) Brickhouse Brown Promo Jerry Lawler vs. Don Bass (Cage Match Clip) (Bass gets his head shaved. Possible Extra) Brickhouse Brown & Don Bass Interview Don Bass vs. David Wilson- They end up cutting the jobber's hair. Wheel of Torture Segment (EXTRA) Jarrett & Travis vs. Fergie & Goliath - The heels get DQed early on. 9/19/87 Heel Stable Interview Don Bass vs. Greg Jones - Again Bass cuts the jobber's hair. Faces Interview Disc 2 Diamond & Tanaka vs. Nasty Boys (9/19/87) - My eyes may be deceiving me but this was pretty damn fun. THe end was convoluted but well executed. First, they do a ref bump spot that actually looked like it could puta ref out. While the ref was out, Diamond tries to take Nobbs out with a chain but gets backdropped. Nobbs grabs the chain and knocks out Diamond. Brickhouse comes in and smashes a chair over NObbs and puts Diamond on top. Jarrett runs in from the back, takes out Brown and puts Nobbs back on top for the pin. After the match, Diamond and Tanaka are outraged. I think I'll put this down as a nomination with the right to change my mind after a 2nd viewing. The post-match with D&T going nuts was pretty great. Davis & Lane vs. Paul & Mattox - Squash Jerry Lawler Music Video (Extra) 9/26/87 Tracy Smothers vs. Keith Erich - Smothers attacked by D&T but saved by Armstrong. - Don Bass and his Mama Interview (Confrontation witth Lawler) - Dundee & Lawler brawl with Brickhouse, Bass and company - All of this is a possible extra as the brawl was pretty great. Nasty Boys vs. Davis & Lane - Sloppy match ends with a chain to Nobbs head and the Nasties lose the title. 10/3/87 Interviews: Southern Boys; D&T; RPMs; Lawler & Dundee; Brown, Fergie & Bass, Nasty Boys Big BUbba-Rocky Johnson Confrontation (Dancing Extra) Big Bubba, Davis & Lane vs. Nasty Boys & Billy Travis - I think this had VQ problems or a disc error. 10/10/87 Bobby Jaggers Interview Diamond & Tanaka vs. Paul & Mattox - Squash Evansville Dressing Room Brawl - They were going for a concession stand brawl vibe here and this is a definite EXTRA as the faces and heels all mix it up in this one. Gotta include the Brickhouse Interview after as well. Nasty Boys vs. Davis & Lane (Inc.)
March 21, 200817 yr comment_5429674 Brick & Bubba come out and cut a great promo on Rocky Johnson (8/22/87) George Barnes comes out with his newly won International Heavyweight Title and cuts a promo on Dundee. (8/22/87) Dundee comes out and says that he won’t wrestle Barnes in a hair match then Super Bubba comes out as they are feuding over the Superstar name and this is great. Extra material. (8/22/87) Lawler comes out with boxing gloves and a hickory stick along with other things talking about his war match with Don Bass and he arms his troops. This was good stuff. (8/22/87) 2 out of 3 falls: Jeff Jarrett & Billy Travis vs. The Rock n Roll RPM’s (Mike Davis & Tommy Lane) (8/22/87) 1st fall ends in a double countout and the faces win the 2nd one quickly. Okay match. Bubba comes out and whines about losing his danceoff with Rocky Johnson at MSC on 8/24/87 and had a dancing demonstration with Brickhouse. This is so great and a definite extra. (8/29/87) Lawler’s Army comes out again with their weapons cutting promos on their various rivals who then come out to cut promos on their counterparts with their weapons. I loved this and this should be an extra. (8/29/87) 2 out of 3 falls: Jeff Jarrett, Tracy Smothers, & Jeff Jarrett vs. Badd Company (Paul Diamond & Pat Tanaka) & King Carl Fergie (8/29/87) Good action in the 1st fall as the faces show good teamwork and quickness in the ring especially Jarrett & Smothers with their armdrags. The finish of the fall was iffy as Smothers went to put Fergie in an O’Connor Roll and Brick was late hitting him with the chain but it went down and Fergie got the win. The 2nd fall also features some good back and forth action featuring Fergie taking a great bump on a headscissors by Smothers but the heels would eventually get the advantage on Travis who sells good. Smothers gets the hot tag and a brawl breaks out with Smothers eventually getting revenge on Fergie with help from Jarrett. There is no 3rd fall but the two we have is very good and it’s a maybe nomination for me. Next we get a Rocky Johnson video to Soul Man. (8/29/87) They show clips of a Steel Cage Match with Dundee & Barnes with Dundee putting his hair and jumpsuits against Barnes’ International Heavyweight Title and leaving town for a year from MSC on 8/31/87 with a Dundee promo. Then we get clips of a Steel Cage Match with Lawler & Bass with Lawler putting up his hair, $5,000, & 1987 Corvette against Bass’ Southern Heavyweight Title, hair, & Bruno leaving town. Bass got shaved and he & Brickhouse come out for an angry promo and this should be an extra. Don Bass vs. David Wilson (9/5/87) Bass destroys the jobber and cuts his hair as the Commission hold the doors for a bit but they break through for a brawl. Next we get Wheel of Torture and this is fucking awesome definite extra. (9/5/87) Jeff Jarrett & Billy Travis vs. King Carl Fergie & Goliath (9/5/87) This was a fun studio match as the heels stooged around for the faces little tricks but when Jarrett got Fergie in an O’Connor Roll, Brickhouse ran in for the DQ. The Commission comes out for a group promo. (9/12/87) Don Bass vs. Greg Jones (9/12/87) Squash and Bass cuts his hair. The faces then come out en masse for a group promo. (9/12/87) Southern Tag Titles: Badd Company (Paul Diamond & Pat Tanaka) © vs. The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) (9/12/87) This had some fun back and forth action as I loved Badd Co. and the Nasties were pretty fun here as faces. The crowd was hot here as well as they really got into the Nasties after their face turn. The finish was overbooked a little like GH said but I liked it regardless as this was Memphis and this was their MO. Badd Co. had quite the meltdown after the match then brawled with Tracy Smothers bloodying him up. This was a very good studio match and I think this deserves to be a nomination. The Rock n Roll RPM’s (Mike Davis & Tommy Lane) vs. Ed Mattox & John Paul (9/12/87) Squash. Tracy Smothers vs. Keith Eric (9/19/87) Smothers had the pin but Badd Co. would jump him until Steve Armstrong showed up to make the save as the Southern Boys reunite. Don Bass comes out with his “mama” and it ends up in a wild brawl with everyone and this is a fucking definite extra. (9/19/87) Dundee gets jumped after his match with Keith Roberson by the Commission as revenge from the last segment before Lawler makes the save. Southern Tag Titles: The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) © vs. The Rock n Roll RPM’s (Mike Davis & Tommy Lane) (9/19/87) This was okay and the RPM’s used a chain to win the titles. Badd Co. & Southern Boys trade promos about each other. (9/26/87) Dundee & Lawler cut a great promo on Bass & Fergie begging them to come out. They show up but with the Commission watching their backs so Dundee & Lawler come out with their own weapons in a standoff. (9/26/87) Bubba & Rocky Johnson have a danceoff and this is a definite extra. (9/26/87) Big Bubba & The Rock n Roll RPM’s (Mike Davis & Tommy Lane) vs. The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) & Billy Travis (9/26/87) TV time runs out fairly quickly. Bobby Jaggers makes his TV debut in a promo (10/3/87) Badd Company (Paul Diamond & Pat Tanaka) vs. Ed Mattox & John Paul (10/3/87) Squash with Jaggers on commentary. Next we get the Evansville Dressing Room Brawl and this is reminiscent of the Concession Stand Brawls in Tupelo. Slam dunk extra. Southern Tag Titles: The Rock n Roll RPM’s (Mike Davis & Tommy Lane) © vs. The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags) (10/3/87) DVD runs out before the finish but the Nasties would regain the titles.
