The match ends in a Double DQ but both Nightmares end up tied in the ropes. This allows the Sluggers to unmask the Nightmares. This has to be an EXTRA as Danny Davis and Ken Wayne look nothing like the bleached blond make-up wearing Nightmares. Lanny Poffo Interview interrupted by Mike Sharpe Iron Mike Sharpe vs. Lanny Poffo - I wish this was Poffo vs. OMG instead. Nick Bockwinkle vs. Jerry Lawler - The match before the commercial break was putting me to sleep. Bock was working the arm bu it wasn't inspiring and nothing looked that painful. Damn man, pull some hair, poke an eyeball, throw an elbow, crank the arm, something. After the break, we have Bock trying to put Lawler away assuming he has controlled the match long enough. This was much more interesting and is probably where the clipped up version of the match comes in. Lawler makes a comeback with nothing punches but he has the best punches in the business so it picks up the intensity. From this point on, both guys go back and forth trying to take each other out. Lawler blades for some reason but it made for a cool visual I guess. I think Bock took the bump before Lawler actually connected the punch but the crowd went nuts when they thought Lawler won the title belt. Another match with a Jekyll-Hyde vibe. The first part was painfull dull. The 2nd half was exciting. There were some problems like the unusual circumstance for Lawler's blading and the fake final bump but I can't see not putting this on the set for others to digest. I really want to know where Phil stands on this.
March 30, 200817 yr comment_5430178 The Daydreamers (Steve Constance & Tim Ashley) vs. The Nightmares (Danny Davis & Ken Wayne) (don’t know the date but I am thinking December 1984) Daydreamers worked as Louisville Sluggers here and these guys had a good look but once they went to work for Watts, Ashley got hurt and quit the business and Constance was jobbed to hell so he quit too. This was a pretty fun little match that would end in a DDQ as they were abusing Jerry Calhoun. The tying the Nightmares up in the ropes so they can get unmasked was great and makes this a definite extra as they beat the piss out of Ashley & Constance once they got free. Mid-America Heavyweight Title: Iron Mike Sharpe © vs. “Leaping” Lanny Poffo (December 1984) This starts with Poffo complaining about not getting a shot in a promo and Sharpe comes out challenging him to get in the ring. Sharpe wins with his loaded armbrace. Savage comes out protesting the finish but it does no good. AWA World Heavyweight Title: Nick Bockwinkel © vs. Jerry “The King” Lawler (10/25/82) I’m pretty sure that is the correct date but these two had so many matches in this period and this is the match from the Wrestling Gold discs but more complete. This starts slow which is to be expected as Bockwinkel was that old school type of champ that would work slow early and build up the pace later on and that’s what happens here. We get clipping between the two commercial breaks which I hate but the way it looked we probably didn’t miss a whole of action. Lawler makes his big comeback and starts firing punches putting Bock on his ass then starts to take control but would get thrown into Jerry Calhoun headfirst. Lawler takes the match to the floor and pounds Bock on the table before going back to the ring for a nearfall. Bock would continue to go for Lawler’s eyes with eye gouges and rakes across the top rope but Lawler would soon drop the strap and started firing shots like crazy with Calhoun trying to pull him off. Lawler keeps throwing Calhoun down but Bock would hit him by accident before Lawler would finish off Bock with an uppercut and Lawler counting his own three count. Calhoun calls for the bell and DQ’s Bock for hitting him in yet another shitty finish. This had great action and I’m throwing it on the block but this is another in the line of shitty finishes in world title matches that we will see a lot more of in all the territories.
