Tiger Mask vs. La Fiera (8/26/84)

- THe early part of this match had a great mix of lucha and New Japan juniors vibe. However, part of that is doing lots of pretty sequences that are ultimately meaningless. La Fiera takes control after a big cross body from the top rope to the floor. He tries to put Misawa away with a nice frog splash but can't get it done. Misawa responds by back dropping Fiera to the floor and hitting a really sweet plancha that knocks them into the rail! After he recovers, Fiera rams Misawa's head into the turnbuckle and tries to follow with a senton mbut Misawa moves out of the way. Nice ending sequence as Misawa flips over Fiera, hits him with a back kick, blocks a Fiera punch and puts him out with the Tiger Suplex. I think I liked the Roberts-Fuchi match better but this was all action from bell to bell and that was a SWEET finisher. Nomination.

This was an entertaining early showcase for Misawa as Tiger Mask. It was all pace and flashy moves, but Misawa hit everything pretty cleanly and Fiera broke it up with enough punches (and that frog splash) to keep it from feeling like an exhibition. I imagine some people will crap on this because it's not real deep or intense, but this set won't have many matches like this. I vote yes.

Tiger Mask II vs. La Fiera (8/26/84)

Fiera had a cool look here looking sorta like the Mexican version of Adrian Adonis with the leather and chains. Misawa still fresh from working in Mexico has a good chemistry with Fiera here and they work this quasi lucha-NJ Jr. match with Fiera bumping like crazy doing wild dives such as a plancha from the top rope to the floor while Misawa was doing TM spots mixed in with his own flair. Fiera taking an insane bump from the ring over the top rope to the floor followed up by a beautiful tope con hilo by Misawa was one of the key highlights of this match and it's watching Fiera bumping like a madman here makes it easy for you to realize that he can barely walk these days. Misawa would eventually nuke him with a Tiger Suplex to get the win in this fast paced match that was non-stop action. This moves forward fairly easily.
