Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Terry Gordy (10/29/84)

- This starts off slow with both guys feeling each other out. Not much happening until Gordy hits Jumbo with a big DDT. Later on, they botch a bodyslam attempt but Gordy recovers and gives Jumbo a back suplex. Things really pick up after Gordy posts Jumbo and Jumbo bleeds buckets. The blood must have inspired Gordy because he goes on the attack with a stun gun, a headbutt and even dropping Jumbo in his powerbomb-piledriver hybrid. Jumbo fights back after throwing Gordy from the top rope and then busts Gordy open by ramming him into the ringpost. Now it is Jumbo's turn to try and put Gordy away with thr big knee and a piledriver. For the lat 6 minutes, both guys try to put each other away. After Jumbo hits a lariat, Michael Hayes jumps in the ring and causes the DQ. Bad ending aside, this was a war. The ending will hurt it in voting but it is a nomination.

Jumbo liked to let his opponent control the early part of a match and that was the case here. Gordy working a front facelock could have gotten old, but Jumbo seemed to get fired up at the taste of his own blood. After he got busted, they really blasted each other for the rest of the match. I didn't mind the finish so much, because it seemed clear that Jumbo had it won after a second vicious lariat, and Hayes was just helping Gordy save face. Solid mid-level nomination here.

NWA International Heavyweight Title: Jumbo Tsuruta © vs. Terry "Bamm Bamm" Gordy (10/29/84)

There was some good back and forth action to start with Gordy being the more dominant getting a nice DDT and a backdrop suplex as the highlights. Jumbo would then fire back with a high knee and a piledriver before the battle went to the floor where Gordy posted Jumbo then he viciously worked over the cut and hitting his big moves like a piledriver, a big lariat, and his powerbomb for nearfalls. Jumbo would fire it up though hitting a big headbutt that sent Gordy to the floor where he returned the posting favor bringing out the color from Gordy. Both men are bleeding now so they are doing what they could to win the match hitting big moves turning this into a war of attrition with Gordy missing his big diving body press off the top rope being the move that Jumbo needed to get Gordy ready. Jumbo gets nearfalls on a Thesz Press and a backdrop suplex before sending Gordy to the floor with an enzuigiri. Hayes would show up after Jumbo brings it back to the ring for the DQ and they brawl a little before cooler heads prevail. The ending was what it was but this was a damn hard hitting match and an easy nomination.
