Posted March 26, 200817 yr comment_5429943 Decker Comp The Fabulous Ones vs. Bobby Eaton & Duke Myers (Hair vs. Titles) (5/16/83) I am going to go ahead and vote Yes tentatively here. It was about as one sided as you are going to get, but the Memphisiness of the whole thing, the cool restart, the crazy Eaton bump and the neat screw job. Enjoyed it too much to not vote yes. Kerry Von Erich v. Jerry Lawler (9/17/88) This has AWA announcers, but it is in Nashville and has Memphis refs so I assume we are counting it here. Pretty fun stuff, mostly punches, but it really had a big match atmosphere. I loved all of the horseshit here, as both Lawler and Kerry punch out the ref, and get double DQ'ed. Then they restart the match and Kerry hits the piledriver for the win, but the KO'ed ref sees the piledriver and DQ's Kerry via Tennessee athletic commission rules. Fun stuff. Ric Flair v. Koko Ware (11/18/85) This may be my favorite non Lawler Memphis match. Flair is great obviously, but Koko is so awesome in this, landing great punches and firing up the crowd. Basically all bumps and punches, but I also loved all of Kokos takedown escapes. Cheap ending, but it is a Flair match. Slamdunk Bill Dundee vs. Sweet Brown Sugar - 2 out of 3 falls Scaffold Match (6/21/82) Man is Will underselling this. This is a match I could easily see finishing in my top 10. Dundee is just crazy agile, he is like a spider monkey up there. Great near falls, awesome punches, and nasty bumps even up on the scaffold. Some of the face first slams on the metal looked great. Southern Heavyweight Title: Jerry “The King” Lawler © vs. Kamala (6/4/84) This was basically a Kamala squash, as he throws Lawler all over the Mid-South coliseum. Lawler takes a beating great, I loved the bump over the Memphis table, but man he didn't even get a real comeback before the finish. Lawler is a pretty good Spike Dudley, but it wasn't like he was taking Spike Dudley level bumps and I don't know about nominating a Spike Dudley match. Were all Lawler v. Kamala matches this one sided? Rick Rude v. Dutch Mantel (5/7/84) The match was built around Angel giving high heeled shoe shots to Dutch Mantell's thigh. They looked pretty nasty. Rude also has some good looking offense, including big ups on a flying fistdrop. They build nicely to the big Dutch spanks Angel spot, not a high end pick, but nom worthy. Randy Savage vs. Austin Idol (5/7/84) Unlike Kris, I think this was the better of the two Savage v. Idol matches. Just felt more out of control, especially in the beginning with Savage flying to the outside into Idol's fist. Plus blood, and dueling flying elbows. Not as awesome a finish, but I loved the fuck out of both of them.
March 26, 200817 yr comment_5429962 The Fabulous Ones vs. Bobby Eaton & Duke Myers (Hair vs. Titles) (5/16/83) Absolutely ridiculous variation on tag formula. When the Fabs are beating the fuck out of someone they are absolute ass kickers. Restart and bs finish are really fun restart and BS finish. eddie Marlin kind of blows explanation of restart and Randy Hales does nice job covering for him. Kerry Von Erich v. Jerry Lawler (9/17/88) fuck i had forgoten how bad Lee marshall is. Kevin is alot more fucked up than he was in Mid south set. He looked like he was struggling not to touch his nose and lick his teeth. I really like the BS finish. and not sure if I'd back this match if it wasn't for how much i kind of like this variation on BS.

This stuff aired on AWA TV in the weeks preceding Super Clash III. They did three shows in three nights that ended up as AWA TV tapings. There are some other matchups that might cause confusion as to where they belong (such as Badd Company vs. The RPMs from the same set of tapings, for example) that we might run into along the way.
March 26, 200817 yr comment_5429964 fuck i had forgoten how bad Lee marshall is. Lee Marshall sucked donkey balls.
May 21, 200817 yr comment_5431443 Southern Tag Titles vs. Jim Cornette’s Hair: The Fabulous Ones (Steve Keirn & Stan Lane) © vs. “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton & Duke Myers (5/16/83) Fabs really work on Duke early here causing him to juice heavily and Paul Morton is checking the cut but keeps the match going although the Fabs are just destroying him. Eaton tries to help but they punish him too. Paul Morton has had enough and he decides to stop the match which infuriates Cornette who demands that Eddie Marlin come out. Marlin decides to restart the match due to his importance so the Fabs immediately go back to work on Duke trying to pin him but Eaton stops it everytime. Keirn finally gets a pin on Duke but Morton is with Lane/Hart so Eaton climbs up top and Cornette throws him a title belt with him dropping on Keirn. Duke rolls on Keirn to win the match. This was wild stuff but basically as big of a squash as you will see except for the end. AWA World Heavyweight Title: Jerry “The King” Lawler © vs. “Modern Day Warrior” Kerry Von Erich (9/17/88) I think this counts more as an AWA match as it was an official AWA taping in Nashville not a Jarrett Promotions taping. This is one that we need to move on as an AWA match because this was a pretty damn great match with both men just punching the hell out of each other and the piledriver finish in Tennessee was awesome stuff. Easy nomination regardless. NWA World Heavyweight Title: “Nature Boy” Ric Flair © vs. Koko Ware (11/18/85) Dusty is advising Koko from the floor giving him the rub. This was a phenomenal match and a slam dunk nomination. 2 out of 3 falls Scaffold Match: “Superstar” Bill Dundee vs. Sweet Brown Sugar (6/21/82) For some reason this scaffold match looked more dangerous than any other one but these guys didn’t give a fuck as they just beat the hell out of each other. They looked like that the chance of falling off didn’t really faze them at times as they were taking some wild bumps on the scaffold. This was also worked different because they would climb down at times before climbing back up instead like the others you had to stay on to win. This was very hate filled and it’s too bad that we don’t have the buildup for this as I’m sure it would’ve been awesome. Definite nomination. Southern Heavyweight Title: Jerry “The King” Lawler © vs. Kamala (6/4/84) Kamala was brought in by Hart to get rid of Lawler and he comes out early just beating his ass. Lawler tries to get some punches in but Kamala just shrugs them off and pounds his belly. Lawler would kick Kamala in the stomach but he would keep on slapping his belly and jumped in the air meaning Lawler was fucked so he went for a nerve hold taking Lawler to the mat. Kamala then hits Lawler with a splash on Lawler’s back and rolls him over for a nearfall then starts back chopping on Lawler. Kamala keeps up the pressure but Lawler starts firing up and drops the strap firing away the punches on Kamala. Lawler keeps throwing but Kamala won’t fall backwards then he got him down. Lawler would miss though with a falling fistdrop so Kamala nails him and sends him to the floor. Kamala then pounds Lawler’s head on the table and keeps on hitting him with everything he could before going back to the ring. Paul Morton counts Lawler out but Kamala breaks the count and posts Lawler a couple of times sending Lawler over the table to the floor. Lawler tries to get back in the ring but Kamala keeps breaking it up just beating the piss out of Lawler. Lawler would get smart though and Kamala would come back to him so Lawler picked up the chair that Hart was sitting in and plastered him two times before going back to the ring winning by countout. Lawler got pretty much destroyed in this match but his smarts prevailed once again telling a great story. Kamala looked as dominant here as I’ve seen him since we started this project but this might be too much of a one-sided match to go on the block. “Ravishing” Rick Rude vs. “Dirty” Dutch Mantell (5/7/84) Angel gets shots in on Dutch throughout the match with her high heel trying to weaken his legs as Hart keeps Jerry Calhoun occupied. Rude is still green but it shows that working in Memphis was improving him and Dutch was a great opponent for him. Dutch finally has had enough of Angel and starts spanking her so Rude attacks him with a suplex for the win. Phil liked this more than I did and I don’t think it’s a nomination. International Heavyweight Title: “Macho Man” Randy Savage © vs. “The Universal Heartthrob” Austin Idol (5/7/84) These two have been in a heated feud for the past couple of weeks and Idol is really pissed after Savage spits on him then runs to the floor. Savage would sneak back in attacked Idol and hits the Macho Man Elbow off the top rope early for a nearfall. Savage then starts firing the punches before throwing him to the floor where he would try his diving double axehandle but Idol would catch in the gut then posted him. The action would go back to the ring with Idol punching Savage a bit before chunking back to the floor where he would continue his attack slamming his head into the ringside table. Savage though would rake Idol in the eyes and hit him in the head with the title belt before rolling back into the ring. Idol takes a bit to get him but he is bloody and Savage hits him as soon as he gets to his feet breaking the count. Savage would then throw Idol back in the ring where he would continue the punishment but the bloody Idol would try to fight back cradling Savage for a nearfall. Savage wasn’t fazed though and continued the attack using his rapid punches that Idol would have enough of before he started firing his own. The bloody Idol is fired up and would hit a diving elbow drop off the middle rope but didn’t go for a pin because he wanted to deliver more punishment to which he did. Idol bites at Macho’s head before going for another elbow drop but Savage rolled out of the way. Savage would go for a kneedrop off the middle rope though and missed leading to Idol working on that knee to go for the Las Vegas Leglock. Idol would get distracted by Angelo though before locking in the hold and Angelo would sneak Savage a foreign object that he used to KO Idol behind Paul Morton’s back to win the match. This was some good solid action but not as good as their match a week later though even with the blood. A borderline nomination.
