Posted April 6, 200817 yr comment_5430456 Riki Choshu vs. Genichiro Tenryu (6/22/85) - They do a long stretch where Tenryu tries to neutralize Choshu's arm so Choshu counters by tying up Tenryu's leg. So, while Tneryu is playing defense, Choshu takes the opportunity to go on offense and try to hook on the Sharpshooter. Awesome spot where Choshu charges Tenryu in the corner but Tenryu knees Choshu's arm and then kicks the shit out of it. Tenryu takes advantage and tries to hit his big moves (Bulldog, Powerbomb) but Choshu is saved by the ropes. A 2nd bulldog results in a Choshu block and a back suplex. This allows Choshu to lock on the Sharpshooter. The end run has Tenryu countering with enziguiries and Choshu attacking Tenryu, throwing him outside and busting him open on the ringpost. Choshu keeps attacking and throws the ref out of the way for the DQ and we end with a pull-apart brawl. This was another solid match between the two but not quite as good as the 1986 ribs match. Nomination. (1985 TV #14) (G+79)
November 28, 200915 yr comment_5446072 I think the actual date on this is 6/21. Their first big AJ singles match after months of testy exchanges in tags and trios. These are two of my favorite guys ever, so the chances of me disliking this were slim and none. Will covered the particulars. They came up with some nifty counterspots and I dug the non-finish with Choshu obliterating the ref so he could keep punching Tenryu in his bloody face. I can't see this failing to make the set.
September 29, 201015 yr comment_5456410 NWA United National Heavyweight Title: Genichiro Tenryu © vs. Riki Choshu (6/21/85) This is the first singles match between these two after months of beating the hell out of each other in tag matches being at Budokan no less means this can't be solid. I dug the early limb work with Tenryu working over Choshu's right arm and Choshu following it up working over Tenryu's left leg. The action would then really pick up with both guys hitting high impact moves trying to put the other one away. Choshu would post Tenryu forcing him to juice then is relentless working on the cut and shoves away Tiger Hattori numerous times which prompts him to call for the bell for a DQ. Ashura Hara then comes out and brawls with Choshu then goes to Tenryu starting a wild pull-apart. This indeed turned into a damn solid match and moves forward easily.
